Importance of practical intformation exchange. Under these days of low economy, and in the middle of innovation to restructure industry aiming new technology based country, small corporate owners are forced to respond in a very serious manner. On the other hand, ability of management development differs and has limits, their respond vary in many ways. Above all, smal1 corporate owners are encouraged to implement broad industry information from different work field, install new technology and positive transfer, to improve the management and change industry for the coming new era.
The hiring fair in England had another name the "Mop Fair" which originated in the story that woman looked for a job of housemaid with a mop for the sign. This study focused on the symbolic function of the costume at the hiring fair in the Victorian age from the description of T. Hardy's novels and using some photographs and paintings. The following results are made clearly : Firstly, the costume and properties that the employees worn suggested their job. Secondly, the smock and the crook were recognised as a shepherd's ordinary costume. Finally, many smocks for shepherds had round-smock shape and were longer than carter's one. The shape and the length of the smock were useful to distinguish the occupation of employees.
The main purpose of this study is conserning with the local dishes whether the young genelation or international palate will be accepted as a new cuisine. Separating of this idea, the. study was taken up the "kaimochi " as a example of local dishes in Yamagata and we will aim to deduce some of the design proposal the new table setting which will contain the interior space for eating
The background of traditional crafts in Okinawa is provided by its geographical condition and historical reasons. The purpose of this research is to examine the promotion plan, in order to get more competitive power in either national or international market. The authors explore the present problems of production, and the actual condition of demand and distribution. The result can be given as follows : (1) Gathering and sharing information are imperative to construct an information network. (2) Training and education shall be done continuously. (3) Supporting the design promotion. (4) Improving traditional crafts design in order to be suitable for modern life.
This report discribes the " Tsudureko Odaiko matsuri" (the great drum festival), an annual event of the Tsudureko Shrine in Takanosu City, Akita Prefecture. There are three of the huge barrel type drums, "Tsudureho Odaiho", that appear in the event. One of the drums registered in Guinness Book of Records. This drum has a diameter of 3.71 meters. The tub-shaped bodies of these drums are made of cedar (Akita Sugi). The wood for these is twisted and bound with bamboo bands. Cowhide is used for the membranes (drum-heads) of the drums. The people in Tsudureko join the whole event, and many of them play the Hayashi music on the "Tsudureko Odaiko". Power of the sound was leading up to these huge drums as we see today.
The Atayal woven crafts played a large role in the tribe's social customs and organaization. The Atayal loom is one of the original types of simple movable backstrap-type loom. By changing the arrangement of the warping bench and one's way of weaving, simple even weaves to Atayal's own characteristic complex patterns can be woven. In both Taroko and Kawanakajima which were surveyed, a difference in tools or techniques used in weaving were hardly seen, but here were regionai distinctions between the use of colors and patterns. In addition, in the case of the original bamboo-frame bow-type backstrap loom in Taroko, the idiosyncracy of men weaving was seen.
The process of India's hand weaving industry as a prototype has become clear, and we know that both proficiency in technical skills and a great deal of time are necessary. Within the declining of the hand weaving industry, the introduction of machinery to one part of the process of production, and additionally in distribution, the preservation of administrative agencies is planned. This is simply due to the fact that there was an intention not only to transmit the goal of the continuance of and economic development of the traditional hand weaving industry from ancient times, but also to transmit the way of thinking that included handspinning and handweaving as a symbol of churka.
Before industrialized sosiety, they had been making fibers, textiles and clothings themselves at home in Japan, and they had been having many creative skill in the area. but, today we have been consuming ready-made goods, and we didn't remake to several things from old clothes and used clothings. We have a difficult subject of waste matters. This study is about how to recycle textiles in future. In this time, I considered to the result of survey about general domestic 406 peoples who have been considering of recycling used clothes and clothings, and about how to recober , how to recycle the gathered old clothings from general peoples, in company. And I studied about several traditional textiles' goods that be maked at home by general peoples in Japan, Europe, America. Through these results, I hope to consider to how to be able to remake textiles of modern life style, in future.
In this study, the traditional persimmon tannin dyeing method in Chejudo (Korea) was investigated. In Chejudo, the juice from unripe persimmon was used directly. However, in Japan, the juice from unripe persimmon was used after stock and fermentation process. Dyeing results were influenced. by the difference of dyeing method. Water was an important factor in Chejudo's persimmon tannin dyeing method. Its dyeing results could easily undergo the influence of water quality (iron ion concentration, pH, etc.). In comparison to ordinary natural dyestuffs dyeing, the amount of water used was extremely small. The dyeing method in Chejudo was considered to be an outstanding method which fits the climate of Chejudo (quality of water is good, water is valuable, etc.).
Life cycle inventories on packagings of detergent for kitchen use were developed to investigate the total energy consumption and atomospheric emissions during the limited life cycle. Additionally the survey was conducted to evaluate consumer's consciousness and activities on refill. It was concluded that the refill of compact type detergent in larger volume can reduce the most environmental load. Most of consumers recognize that the refill is usuful to reduce the environmental load. But there is no existing refill to be satisfied fully by the consumer.
Beech and LVL beech frames irradiated with ultraviolet rays (UV) are stronger than those laid at room temperature. The value of compressive strength is greater than estimeted. Experimental results showed that the wood and adhesive becarne hard after UV was shone. We put the test on the compressive strength of beech and LVL beech frames in order to investigate the stress-strain relationship using the strain gauges. Test pieces laid at room temparature increased the amount of the strain rapidly immediately before breaking. In comparison with this, test pieces irradiated with UV increased the little amount of the strain. After beech and LVL beech frames are irradiated with UV, the value of compressive strength increases. The wood and adhesive become hard but beech and LVL get brittle.
This paper proposed a guide that is essential in order to design toilet space. By investigating the questionnaire about toilet and implementing the factor analysis, it was cleared that the youngster and the antediluvian give a kind of priority to sanitation and habitability, respectively. Furthermore, design elements that compose image of toilet space were extracted with the repertory grid technique. As a result, the calmness and the cleanness were selected as the elements that locate in the highest class. The former was needed at all generation, while the necessity of the latter depended on the generations. It was suggested that the toilet design to have considered the generations and the preference was needed.
In case of this study, as the means to fulfill the lifetime that object has, the affection for object was systematized. Fron the results of the questionnaire investigation and the interviewing investigation that uses the Repertory Grid Technique, the graph systematized was made. As a result, the four factors of occurrence of affection was found out. That factors is that object be equipped with the excellent structure and mechanism, that good materials be used for object, that object be equipped with the characteristic which isn't in the other object and that the new sense of value occurs to the object.
This paper was intended as investigation of relaion between visual image affected by shape and dynamical characteristic that relates to the shape. Simple cantilevers were chosen in order to exclude the prejudice received from products. The stress distribution was calculated by the finite element method as the dynamical characteristic. As a result of the sensory evaluation, the visual image was explained. Furthermore, the following three relations were suggested by considering the rerations between the distributions and the visual images. (1) The average of principal stresses and the sense of stability. (2) The average with angle of principal stress vectors and the sense of relief. (3) The standard deviation of angles of principal stress vectors and the sense of novelty.
Amang defferent fields of products, there aer always designs with a strange character that are clearly different from the image of other products. The purpose of this paper is to describe the image of designs with a strange character cnsidering the reletion between epithet and samples (53 audio products with a strange caracter). By making inquires about the strange products, 17 epithets are extracted. The results of the analysis was that the products with strange character can be classified into fllowing three main groups : strange character with special form, strange character with special function and strange character without features. And this results shows us the image of the designs with a strange character.
Researchs about mosaics consisting of regeular n-gon as a unit-tile have finished from n=3 to n=7,next is n=9. A whole number 9 is an odd having a prime 3 as a divisor. Bat from geometricat view-point, it means regular 9-gon involves regular triangles. In this sense, if same shapes suggest some other shapes, we call then "hiddemshapes" This is a research of regular 9-gon and hiden shape.
There are many cases that use an abstract word when the consumer evaluates of product's from. Doing and take "The SHIRITORI protocol methed", to announce the diversity of the image space that spreads to the back of the high word of abstraction nature in this research, created the method. One target, this method reminds reminds of the image of intuition from one word and cause it swollen out in succession. Three kinds of words that "shitashiminoaru", "asobigokoro", "wakuwakusuru", this study was selected as the research object.
This study aims examine systematically placed pattern using plane geometry. A square-unit pattern, which is methodically composed of the basic square-unit, shows some similarities to Moire Pattem when it is overlaid with the inverted square-unlt pattern. However, obviously the structure of above-mentioned pattern differs from the one of Moire-Pattern. It is possible to conjecture that the new-pattern system is closely parallel to the theory of "synchronization" in physics, for instance. Here we analyze the new-pattern system composed of the square-unit pattern in four ways of verification, and also introduce several interesting pattern that appear during the process.
Necessarily, if plastic is not correct dynamically, it isn't formed as solid. Still more, there are many works that harnessed "Force" positively as an element of construction. "Force" is an invisible thing. but we can recognize the existence of "Force" through "Form". This Study is based on the view that there is a certain correlation between "Force" and "Form". So I consider "Force" about a physical working and mental process resulting from that.
This paper compares the research activities in the 1 890s of the Japan Society, London (organized in 1892) with articles on Japan of the same age in The Studio, an art magazine, founded in 1893. C. Holme, the editor, and most of the writers of The Studio belonged to the Japan Society. At the ordinary meeting there, half read a paper on Japanese fine art and applied art. Most of these writers had written books and papers on fine art and applied art based on a visit to Japan before the Japan Society was established. They suggested that information on Japan reported to the Western public by The Studio based on investigation by intellectuals with experience of visiting to Japan, and that the Japan Society played an important part as a source of articles.
In this paper the author's principal aim is to present activities of Kuwasawa Yoko in 1930's. We examined the magazines "I SEE ALL" "JUTAKU" and the autobiographies of Kuwasawa. In 1933,she was educated in composition at "Sin-Kenchiku-Kougei-Gakuin" that Kawakita Renhichiro established. Thereafter. Kuwasawa became a member of the edi-torial staff on "l SEE ALL"JUTAKU". By this experience, Kuwasawa gained knowledge of new design and architecture. In those days, Kuwasawa became conscious of rather functionalism of architecture design than fashion design.
The relationship between Logical Positivism and the Modern design movement is a recent topic in design history. From a design-historical point of view, this growing relationship can be described as a way of searching scientific design theory. However, in this perspective, we encounter one problem. That is Neurath's very unique stance in not only his philosopical theory and also his activity within the modern design movement. The uniqueness of his stance is briefly described through some episodes such as affair in the fourth CIAM conference. Finally, possibility of a comparative study of two thinkers of "visual language" is suggested : Neurath and Moholy-Nagy.
Tiles were one of the most signifrcant art forms in the Victorian period for middle-class houses. The contemporary tile-makers can be categorized into 5 types (putting A-E on each production). The tiles produced by large manufacturers (A) or William De Morgan Pottery (C) tend to have ornate patterns, and are mainly used in upper-middle-class houses, particularly those of large employers' and big merchants'. They wanted to create their houses like an aristocrat's. Therefore, these tiles could be adopted to enrich their interior decorations. Meanwhile, Dutch tiles companies (E) or Morris & Co. (D) supplied Dutch or Dutch style tiles. They are mainly used in mid-middle-class houses, particularly those of artists'. The feature of these tiles is simple and delicate decorations. Therefore, these tiles could be adopted to visualize their favorite rustic atmosphere in their houses.
Today, almost all store signs and billboards in Korea are written in Hangul, the Korean alphabet. Actually, the usage of Hangul in store signs has a short history, dating back to the late 1900s. Those rare Korean store signs were said to contain distinct features because they were written using calligraphy brushes. Thanks to its simplicity, the Hangul-written store signs you see around today in Korea is Gothic in style. They reason that stymied the evolution of the written style was the rapid industrial development and urbanization of Korea. This stunted the progression of Hangul-written store signs into something more creative and original.
This Research Is A Study On The Involvement Between Bauhaus And Music. 1. Johannes Itten's And Wassily Kandinsky's Basic Design Education And Music 2. Oskar Schlemmer's Experimental Ballet And Music 3. The Significance Of "Bauhaus Concert" (1923) 4. The "Bauhaus Band" And jazz A Verification Of The Above Four Categories Based On Historical Facts.
Bundles of cedar twigs were displayed at the storefront of sake breweries as the shop's signboard. There were also many sake brewers that suspended bundles of voided pawn tickets, although this was also known to be the signboard of pawnshops. Wealthy people became sake brewers because of the considerable capital funding that sake brewery required and they operated pawnshops besides. Clothing was placed out on display in front of sake shops and, in this study, I point out the strong possibility that this clothing was actually unredeemed pawn pledges and that it was placed there to be sold.
In the British motorcycle the important matter was the opening of the isle of Man TT race of the 1910s. It was the maker and enthusiastic sport fans that the competitive sprit that raised this in global event. I think that it was the expression of the characteristic of the play cultur they look like the John Bull exactly. Although even the excellent motorcycle the maker did refined be many is the engineer likes the training of older technology and become a cunservative design trend It was a Norton and Triumph that survived at the end of the 1950s and be not productivity although it is high qualty.
From 1928 to 1929,Josef Albers directed the Furniture Workshop of the Bauhaus and executed an armchair in bent laminated wood, called Model Ti244,for industrial production. Ti244 incorporated the economical form that Albers stressed in his basic design course. At that time the Bauhaus proposed the People's House with the aim of providing a low-cost apartment. The People's House was furnished with Ti244,and Ti244 became one of the representative productions of the Bauhaus under the Hannes Meyer period.
In moden times of Japan, a child was discovered its existence and became an object of consumption. As well as any other children's articles, children's clothes were appeared with various backgrounds of those days. In this report, I revealed, from the end of Meiji to Taisho, what kind of market children's clothes established as merchandise, and deversities of the product range which I confirmed from my reserch of Doi Child Living Museum which owned children's clothes sold in in department stores and catalogues of department stores in those days.
It have been said "discover new merits in district" for a long time. There are very diverse thoughts or philosophies rural life. This paper investigates an idealized method of living in a rural district through ideas of W. Morris, K. Miyazawa and S. Mushanokouji, who were pioneers examining this issue. They had similar ideals for a utopia besed on socialism and the beautiful natural environment of rural district. They thought a city was polluted by civilization, and in such conditions the joys of honest physical labor and the joys of life are never fully realized. Today's society is supported by new technology in transportation and communication, therefore it is necessary to explore the mental rich-ness of rural romanticism.
The purpose of this report is to investigate the kitchen electric appliances which developing and prevailing in Taiwan .It is usual for less developed countries to be reluctant to accept foreign technique and design under circumstance, In contrast to social and economical condition, analyzing that whether the habit and taste of industrial products of consuming public is confined completely to the foreign technique and design. According to this investigation, due to the unique social culture and life pattern in Taiwan, in using of kitchen electric appliances over type and habit is different from the countries vhich supplied the technique and design.
This work is an attempt to chart the rise in popularity of the chair use in modern Japan. As a part of this work, this study investigated the intentional value of chairs that had bcen expected by the people in Meiji and Taisho era At first, 214 books was checked to see what was regarded as the merits and demerits of the chair use. Then 29 document was found and 8 1 merits and demerits was extracted. Next they was classified into four categories : usefulness, popularity, trendiness and economy. Finally, the usefulness of chair use was discussed to clarify the intentional value of chairs. Then it was observed that the chair had been expected to bring the following effects : to help the growth and health of the bodies; to enable the people to be active; to increase the efficiency of the daily life.
Modem design in Hungary had developed under the influence of Bauhaus in 1930s. Moholy-Nagy, Molnar Forkas and Bortnyik Sandor showed Bauhaus' teaching methods and ideas in the graphic arts magazines. Functionalist architect Molnal who had worked with Gropius contributed on the development of modern Hungarian architecture. Bortnyik founded his free school called "Muhely" (Workshop) in the spirit of Bauhaus in Budapest (1928-38). He had teached the constructivist form, published magazines "Uj Fold", "Plakat" and created commercial posters with Herbert Bayer's universal script. These two streams opened the possibility in the Hungarian modern design field.
Bruno Taut (188O-1938). a German architect, served the National Research Institute of Industrial Arts(NRIIA) as an adviser between November 1933 and March 1934. He submitted to the NRIIA three reports respectively titled "PROGRAMM(PROGRAM)." "Be such in der Metallwerkstatt (auch Lack) mit den Herren Saito. Ueda und Suzuki (Visit to a metalwork (and japanwork) studio with Saito, Ueda and Suzuki)." and "Antwort auf die Frage des Direktors(Answer to the Director's question)" in the first month after his arrival. The present paper aims to study his fundamental principles in indusuial arts through the translation and analysis of the reports. He advocated that new type of Japanese industrial arts should come from the synthesis of Japanese tradition and Western modernity.
The production of bent-wood chairs in Japan has been developed since the second half of the Meiji Restoration Era. Even though Private Companies took on researchs a little faster than the Government, those researchs made progress almost at the same time. The designs of bent-wood chairs weere, all of them, copies from the Thonet's ones, and for that reason our own designs cannot be seen at all. From the beginning, there were produced for export and for the internal maket consume as objective.
In this paper, we have dealt with the technique of producting tables that have solid top board in Hotel New Grand. We can find here the buttoning(Komadome) for jointing the solid top board and frieze( Makuita), and the top of legs is not inserted into the top board. One of the production technique has completed extending over the end of Taisho and the early Showa period. This technique is just adapted for the shrinkage of the solid top board.
Geometrically projected perspective represents a well-constrained problem, but does not always produce a visually correct result. However, perspective by eye requires judgement and is not well-constrained. This represents the dichotomy between geometric logic and perception. A hypo-thesis on this division was investigated by an experiment in which 14 college students were asked to construct six images of a cube using a CAD programme. The results showed that subjects tended to construct the less visible side longer, and conversely, the more visible side shorter, than geometric perspective would produce. Moreover, more acute the angle, the larger the individual differences become.
This paper describes the system of user test using network. With this system, it is possible to save and share the design knowledge. In order to make it possible to promote the effective evaluation-design cycle, it is important for the designers to understand the essential problems of the systems and to recognize the user's needs.By using this system and testing with the proto-type model on network, the designers can find the problems effectively. After that, they analyze the problems and construct the design knowledge database to share them among the remote designers groups. They can share the design kuowledge on network freely with this system.Constructing thi s independent of computer platform, we made it possible to use this system freely.
It is investigated to what extent a user can operate an electric apparatus without manual information based on the case study using a "Tapewriter(an apparatus making a label)". First, it was studied user's understanding a word written on the panel of the apparatus. Then the obstacle factors for operation were examined experimentally by the task of label making. The results show some important factors for the operation without manual information.
Design environment for the computer has progressed recently. Digital contents on various areas are being created by tools incorporated new technologies. But mostly, the expressions are limited by a set of standard software and file format and designers can not break through the limit. I have explored "motlon" expression as possibillities beyond oi the standard format based on the traditional method of design. Because researches on dynamic characters of the computer as a media are few in contrast to the static side, such as tools for printings-computer as a paper. In this presentation, I propose a mechanism that allows designers to express a variety of motion on a computer screen.
It spends so much Memory Erea to create the figures on the 3D Computer Graphics. Cause the Human body is the most complex and sensitive , we cannot substitute another cube for it. But the process of the simplificating is immportant way to creates many figures on the 3DCG space. Specially, using the Charactors on VRML, we require real time moving figures.
On the making Image Art, not always in Computor Graphics, the existence of the element as "obstacle" is the most important. The purpose is to make it clear that "Unvisible Structure" to be "Visible and Simple space form". The "obstacle" itself creats the basic groung of the story forming. The condition that decides the aspect of the "obstacle" is simplified about 10 parts. Each condition perform rerative direction inside the structure.
Recently, rapidly increasing internet websites are providing us with the new kinds of multimedia informations without borders acting as the center for exchanging informations. The representative homepage oi websites of information transformations means the first page containing no lower directories and consist of backgraund titles, icons, texts, symbols and can design them in consideration of graphical process, planning, contents and others. In this research, we have analyzed the visual factors of frequencies, ratio of areas, distributions, alignment methodologies on layouts of homepages consisting titles, icons, texts and symbols etc. form randomly picked samples of 161 homepages of websites in the internets.
There are two classifications for moving recorded tracks on MiniDisc. l) Serial method is to move one track at a time. 2) Parallel method is to order all tracks as you like. Parallel method requires two procedures : one is to group several tunes and the other is to select a destination for the grouped tunes. A user test was conducted with a model to study operation habitual. The result indicated that the confusion was caused by the gap of the track numbers as new and old track positions are automatically renumbered. Confusion was also caused by different operations to be made depending on where the track is to be moved. Visualizing an invisible wall might solve these problems.
Sound elements are one of the essential aspects of Interface, Interaction and Information Design. The goal of this project is to discover how to use sound elements and inspire others in our field about them by using visual elements. We have been considering "the sound is music", defining the smallest measure as "Part" or "Phrase", which includes the harmony and melody, and tries to build new interaction between users and music. At first, we devoloped software called "SOUNDTIPS" that can control the composed parts of an ensemble on the display. This papor will describe the innovative points of "SOUNDTIPS" and the process of its development.
Kinetic Typography is typographical animation on conputer screen. Compared with fixed typography printed on paper, kinetic typography has sevral new features in communi-cation with kinetic motions. This reserch persues possibilities of Japanese kinetic typography. Japanese kinetic typography can emphasize a meaninig of each block letter and has kinetic motion grammer for effetive communication tool. Kinetic typography will develop some information tools such as display cellular phone, communication system for deaf-ear person or fundamental design system of multimedia.
Last year our group produced some works by the kinetic typograpy throuh Japanese experimentally in the class of degsin college in Japan. Watching the works of the students , various expressions were seen in their structures of scenes and stories and in the ways to express their emotions. These various expressions can make the communicating method abudance. By the result of our experiments , we've recognized that the kinetic typograpy through Japanese is an effective way in the design education in the future.
