The purpose of this research is the classification of the hearing impaired for criteria of design of communication aids. Generally speaking, the hearing impaired are classified by level of hearing loss. In this research, classified by abil- ities of sending and receiving of information, and they are able to classify into six groups. ・A group has much the same abilities of communication as normal persons have, and can use telephone. ・B group is able to speak with unknown persons. ・C group is able to speak with family. ・D group has very low abilities of sending and receiving, and is unable to speak with normal persons. ・E group has high ability of sending, but ability of receiving is very low. ・F group has high ability of receiving, but ability of sending is very low.

It is important for designers to make a selection from many kinds of industrial materials. This paper is a study on the guideline to select out materials at initial design stage. The results are as follows; 1.There are three kinds of levels for selection of materials. The first level is selection out conceptual kind of material, second is selection from material in actuality, and third is decision on grade name or trade name. 2.Items of evaluation for selection out materials are important not only those technical data based on properties but also conceptual images abstracting from those actual characteristics. 3.Materials are transformed into actual shape products by a forming or the shaping process, items for selection are depended on shape or dimension of materials. 4.The propriety of this guideline is considered by concrete selection out materials in case of a bottle.
