This paper is a study of the social aspects of chests from various nations and time periods. 1 The relation between chests and precious things is extremely close, the chest has many meanings, depending on how it is used. It can be a safe or symbolize the job of cashier and dealing area. Also it can symbolize person's independence. 2 Many nations have a custom of using a bridal chest as a continer for property. Depending on the family's werlth and status, the chest design could be categorised hierarchically, from the gorgeous to the simple. The appearance and number of bridal chests were important, as is the luxury of the bridal procession and wedding ceremony. 3 Generally, chests have passed out of use. But the chests are still used by Sumo-wreslers and in Shurine festivities. Because the act of carring them has a significant social value, it could be said, that a chest's meaning is balanced between it's utility and social function.

Recently, more and more computers have adopted the graphic symbol called 'icon' to improve the man-machine interface. Icons enable inexperienced users to operate computers easily without developing complicated programs. In this study, we focused on 'object icons' that have the meanings of subjects and simplified the icons' dot count. And we tried to establish the recognition structure in the process of graphic symbol simplification. First, we surveyed the change of the recognition point for the simplified icons through a questionnaire. Secondly, we quantitatively measured the shape entropy value of the recognition point using the entropy concepy to measure the complication level. Thirdly, we got on degrees of effect the correlation of the recognition point and the shape entropy value, and weighted degrees of perceptual effects on the configuration element set to calculate the shape entropy value. Finally, we have established the model expression to estimate the recognition point.

In the history of modern design, various problems regarding the essence of Mackintosh's design and its historical evaluation are left unresolved. As the difficulty of resolving the problems is due to the insufficient recognition of Mackintosh's interior space design, the elucidation of his interior space design is indispensable for his historical understanding. The various uncertain reasons given in many papers as to why the Glasgow style suddenly came to nothing, why it couldn't form the basis of a modern movement, or why Mackintosh exercised little influence in Britain when his work was greeted with enthusiasm abroad, are to be attributed to the visual sensitive character of his interior space design, which was realized contrary to the European traditional sense of tactual-functional space, under the influence of japonisme. The same visual sensitive character of his space, as presented in magazines in the 1890's enjoyed immediately widespread acclaim on the Continent.

This paper is aimed to define a method to create design concept that are at early stage of design process. Imagination words expressing design concepts are collected and structured as their own space. Concepts, then, can be investigated and defined in this space. Design concepts should always have new context involving new imagination words. So that the space tends to expand their sphere. In order to set the limit of the space, space were composed by the specific subject of design concept and divided in 4 phases according to the syntax of scenario that concept should follow. A design concept can be set up by defining the position in each phase. This method has a certain robustness against a change of structures of space, since the space required only a particular phase to be restructured.
