This report is study on application of the semiotics to operational way of products, and shows its propriety concreatly by using the manual of products. (1) Easy using of products depends on partly how to image the way to use products. We analogize the way to use products by form of products and parts. So the way to use products is sign, which is consist of signifier and signified. Signifier means form of operational or indicative parts, and signified means how to operate these parts. (2) Products as signs are means of comunication from marker (designer) to use. The concept of products including the way to use is messages, and manual is code. (3) The way to use products has distinctive features as signs, which are ability of repeat, system consist of stable units, and spread of messages similer to language.

The aim of this study was to develop a quantitative analysis of a curve's character from the view point of a human observer. The research investigated how designers control a curve's character by the use of image words. As a result of this it was found that the character was controlled by changing the pattern of curvature and volume. From this a quantitative analysis was developed. Further to this, a number of drawing curve and curves used on existing car surfaces were analysed. As a result, it was verified that it is possible to correlate the character and numerical expression for those curves. It is thought that this quantitative analysis could form an index in the design of a car's surface and a key in researching the relation between a curve's character and image words.

This study is to make clear, by semiotics, the complex comunication system of using products. (1) System of substance includes the element of operational and indicative parts, and parts of output, and system of language includes, manual, parts name, and explanatory sentence on proudcts. The relation of system of substance and language is same relation of objective language and metalanguage. Signifier and signified of substancial system together compose signifier of metalanguage, and signified of metalanguage is supplied. (2) The system of substance have denotation and conotation. Denotation shows objeotive meaning. Signified of conotation consist of signified and signifier of denotation. Signifier of conotation shows feeling of using products. (3) Manual, parts name, and explanatory sentence are meta languages. They are essential fof electronic products to show the function or the way of use, corresponds with operational and indicative parts.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the visual images of men's shop facade. Two hundred and eight persons (at the age of 18 to 20) participate in evaluating the facade with semantic differential 7-point scales of 20 adjective words. As the result of the factor analysis of the 7 perceptual scale using the average scores of the date, two dimensions "Activity" and "Evaluation" are extracted. According to the two dimensions, the visual images are classfied into nine categories. The customer accessibility is more greatly influenced by "Activity". However, it is independent of "Evaluation". On the other hand, the synthetic evaluation is closely connected with "Activity" and "Evaluation". There are no significant differences between the visual images by male and those by female.
