The algorithm of shading under uniformly cloudy sky was extended to deal with the sky light of nonuniform directional distribution of luminance and chromaticity. Gauss' spherical map was introduced to represent the corresponding values of shade with normal vectors at any surface diffusing perfect or imperfect. As a result of the extension, quality of the images with respect to the appearance of three dimentionality was improved. The rotationally symmetric distribution of directional luminance varying in proportion to square of the cosine of the zenith angle was applied to the image generation of the onion-like color solid. As a result, it was found that the lightness, square root of luminance, increases in proportion to the distance from the bottom plane. Thus the presented color solid provides more uniform scale of lightness than the foregoing onion-like color solid shaded under uniformly cloudy sky.

The surroundings of Japanese lacquer ware have been changed after World War II . To compare traditional management with contemporary household, we experimented on traditional Japanese lacpuer ware (URUSHI WAN) in washing and drying test. The traditional management of washing and drying is the best way of Japanese lacquer ware treatment. These way of traditional management are transmitted from generation to generation. For instance, the traditional Japanese lacquer ware is explaind as "a living and breathing ware," the scientific mechanism of lacquer ware is aquired in long history of usage. Regarding the traditional manner which is including the management and maintenance of lacquer ware from scientific view point, we must try to reexamine the design in contemporary Japanese culture.

We can grasp the design process as the human performing process. This paper treats of problem-design that should be the most creative activity in the design process and inquires into the methodology for the multiple design problems. The troublesome and ill-defined social situation is regarded as the sets of the performansces or events that we feel uneasy. The design problem does not exist previously in the real world. It should be created or designed after analysis and careful consideration of such situation. To grasp and understand of the troublesome social situation, it is an effectual method to take the sketch map of structural relationships between the events which belong to the objective situation. This map disclose the hierarchy of the events or factors which constitute the situation. The design problem is created by means of the original interpretation and evaluation of the sketch map.

In recent years, customers have been placing greater emphasis on the utility of their automobiles. However, consumers are more particular about automobiles than most other products; therefore, we cannot ignore the fact that people expect the informational value in automotive design, especially exterior styling. Despite the conventional wisdom in automotive design that says the informational value and the utility value are oposing forces, it will be difficult yet necessary to meet consumer's desire for both. In order to acheive this, it is necessary to review out-dated dasign methods and change the requirements of being a Designer.

It is found that all kinds of the materials planning fall under the following two considerations : One process is the consideration of the necessary abilities of products ; Selection of the most suitable materials. Development of new materials. Design of materials structure. Improvement of undesirable properties of natural materials. Addition of new function to usual materials. Another is the consideration regarding the properties of materials ; Application of advanced new materials or waste materials. Reuse or recycle of unused waste products or materials. The recent movement of materials planning for product design have been discussed from following points of view : 1) Changes of the relationship between materials and products. 2) Changes of design factor consideration. 3) Advance of manufacturing technology. 4) Appearance of new materials. 5) Change in the role of materials for design. Conclusions from those discussion are the following : 1) Appearance of new materials has led to new relationship between materials and products. 2) Meterials planning must consider the total system and cycle of thermodynamics. 3) Regarding waste problem, the materials planning for new designs is going to become more important.

The connection of "Classification in Automobile Styling" and "Design Cognition" was discussed. The sample of various automobile temporarily was classified into "Universal Category", "Category by model representative of the Universal", "Category by similarity of styles", and "Category by subjective judgment". We generated exaggerated images of samples from various "Average" images of groups in categories, asked people to select the most realistic image from each groups and got the exaggerated degree of the most realistic images. And then we asked people to select the most realistic image from each images. As a result, it was found that the category that people identify a characteristic were "2BOX Style" and "3BOX Style", in case of a total of distance from "Average" model to the sample, people chose the image which matched "Average" images of these categories, or matched "Original" images of the sample.

Bruno Taut's works and thoughts of design were provocative of many difficulties, for exemple, why Taut's researches into the spatial construction of architecture abruptly vanished after the Glashaus, and why both of Taut's contradictory thoughts of the Glashaus, and of the housing estate were realized parallel in the same year, 1914, notwithstanding these are understood antagonistic each other, and so on. These questions are investigated from the view points of the space construction of modern design, and of the garden city movement. Both of these are traced in the early works of Bruno Taut, and it becomes clear that the mediation of the antagonistic thoughts are given in the space sense of the community sentiment, socalled social thought, which he found out in the experience of the Falkenberg Siedlung, and in the circumstance of the incarnation of social thought, given the meanings and reasons of the realization of the Glashaus.
