This paper is the second report of a basic study on the inter-regional cooperation based on the theory of endogeneous development. It takes three municipalities in the northeastern part of Yamanashi Prefecture, Enzan City, Makioka-cho and Mitomi-mura, as the fields of research. This study aims to work out the measures for regional revitalization through rediscovery and re-recognition of regional resources based on a fieldwork and to examine the functions of inter-regional cooperation. This research do the following process to establish the measures for regional revitalization; (1) developing eight Basic Principles concerning regional development, with regional resources at its center, as a guideline for regional revitalization, (2) developing Practical Models as an embodiment of these principles, on the premise that each party plays its own role, and (3) as activities based on the Practical Models proceed, multiple Basic Principles, all of which are closely connected to each other through Practical Models, will be attained, which brings realization of regional revitalization based on inter-regional cooperation that embraces these three municipalities all together. In these measures, inter-regional cooperation works as the following; (1) each one of the residents has a role to play, (2) regional revitalization is based on reconfirmation and re-recognition of the life culture on the whole, (3) regional resources shall be preserved and created as a regional identity, and (4) untapped regional resources shall be put into use to create variety of products.

This paper discusses the Inter-Regional Cooperation based on Endogeneous Development that take place in three places located in Northeast Tochigi Prefecture; Kuroiso City, Nasu-machi, and Kurobanemachi. In the beginning, it research the local residents' wishes through the fieldwork and interview survey. This research planned the common theme,"Suijunkyc (water circulate homeland) that nurtures, flows and creates life", which the"water"as the one of main natural resources that holds the area together. According to the theme, the area can be considered as three"Sato", which exist together as a livelihood system. And they are not constrained by usual administration system. The three"Sato"means"Sato where the water begins","Sato where the water gathers",and "Sato where the water flows"and set the activities that reflect each concept of space. The area exist as a whole activities of each space and the local cooperation accomplished beyond common administration reel. The regional cooperation beyond the administration reel is achieved by basis of the endogeneous development theory. Furthermore, this cooperation become an efficient strategy to make a sustainable society in future.

It goes without saying that the spatial elements have played an important role, in the evolution of modern design. Although Japanese influence on European design in the 19th century has been widely cited as Japonisme, and the primary features of Japanese traditional design works are usually reduced to their spatiality. When it discussed in Japan, the influence of Japanese spatialism on the European design has not been sufficiently acknowledged. This paper will describe the influence of Japanese spatialism that had on the designs of Godwin, Dresser, Mackintosh and others during the latter part of the 19th century and its transfer to the space design of Serrurier-Bovy and Van de Velde through the Liberty Co.. Then, after the development of the space of modern design in Germany under the influence of Van de Velde after the Dresden International Art Industry Exposition 1897 will be followed.

This report proposes a video summarization algorithm that generates a video summary using the Semantic Score Method for the purpose of automatically generating a video clip. The Semantic Score Method enables to quantitatively describe narrative structure of content through its cognitive evaluation by viewers. The paper derives the algorithm through a comparative analysis of 15 movies and their trailers, and demonstrates the effectiveness of the algorithm by evaluating the quality of the video summaries it produces. This algorithm makes it possible to produce various video clips according to viewer characteristics based on the Semantic Scores of a large numbers of viewers collected at movie and TV drama previews. It also makes it possible to intuitively select program titles or browse content from moving images generated by the algorithm in a storage-based broadcasting environment.

Designer's drawings could be important clue for understanding the creative thinking process. We prepared several experiments to see how drawings devote to creative design. The subjects were assigned tasks to design paperweights by two different keywords. From observation of drawing process, two different thinking types were recognized. One was who searched as possible as many associations from the given key words, then select one from them. The other was who drew abstracted forms and gradually brash up them to get most fitting image for given key words. Then, the sketches were evaluated, and analyzed on the relations of the thinking types and their drawing ways. The former type sketches were made by cartoon-like single line drawings, and the latter type sketches were made by elaborated and repeated line drawings. Most of good results were seen in the latter type group. From the results, we became to think that the creative design can be got only when the keyword was once lifted up to high abstracted level concept, which could be fixed after frequent interactions between the concept in mind and drawn images.

In this paper we formulate 5 ideas for tourist development of Sanpoku-machi area in Niigata prefecture: (l)to value daily life in the 48 villages as the main regional development resource, (2) regional development by division of daily life at Sanpoku-machi, (3) regional development with a role for each individual in the villages, (4)regional development to enjoy the encounter with nature as a source of life ,(5) regional development inspired by hometown's wisdom and tradition. Furthermore we consider some aspects of an endogeneous regional development based on the practice of those ideas. The results clarified that the regional development planning in Sanpoku-machi has the following endogeneous aspects: (1) it is oriented in`what to design', (2) it is based on townspeople ideas, (3) it has the will to make full use of all resources, (4) it is oriented toward setting a great value on daily life, (5) it is oriented to connect all towns-people.

In this study, the hierarchical evaluation model responding to nonlinearity was constructed for the evaluation of a design solution. Considering visual information process in cognitive science and brain science, the evaluation model is a three-hierarchical structure consisting of three layers; design variable, element evaluation and image evaluation. Element evaluation and image evaluation were represented by the evaluation factor in the factor analysis. Moreover, the relations between the factors in each layer were modeled on the linear regression model. In cases it was difficult to be modeled on the linear model, they were modeled on a nonlinear neural network model. This hierarchical evaluation model was applied to wineglasses. As a result, the hierarchical evaluation model, which involved the linear model from the design variable to the element evaluation and involved the nonlinear model from the element evaluation to the image evaluation, was constructed. Consequently, the most appropriate model-application of each layer and the effect of minimizing nonlinearity were confirmed.

Design work is the inverse reasoning process where designers predict the evaluation and modify design valuables. In this study, we followed the actual design process and the inverse reasoning system that derives the design solution from image target was constructed. First, in this system, first, an image target was set in the value space. Second, genetic algorithm was adopted as an optimization algorithm in the solution deriving process; the operation was repeated until the predicted evaluations met the image targets. Finally, the design solutions were proposed. Then, the con'structed system was applied to the shape generation of wineglasses. As a result, various shapes were generated by using the distance from the origin to the image target in the value space as an index. Furthermore, the intended shapes were generated by setting a target in the existing value space. Consequently, the applicable scope of this system was shown and the possibility of design support with this system was also shown.

This study is an investigation of how to improve design in the current age of digital information. Systematic design, which is the basic principle underlying today's design methodology, is an analytical method. However,"what"is the focus in the design of digital products, and the synthesis process becomes more important. The following are regarded to be the requirements for a new design methodology: (1) The human/artifact system should be regarded as an integrated and reciprocal relationship that should be reconstructed as a whole. (2) The physical and social cultural environments must be completely understood and taken into consideration. (3) In designing information products, for example, design considerations must be expanded to include not only utilitarian goals, but also mental objectives such as the meaning of communication. (4) Perspectives must be consolidated independent of conventional design parameter definitions. (5) These concepts can be referred to as"design in which a product is defined in its true state."

This article discusses the role in which rough sets theory plays for the product development with the purpose of Kansei. The product development is to design attributes so that a new product belongs to an intended class, when the new product is evaluated. It is noticed that the rough sets theory is effective as a means of knowledge acquisition for design, when a product attributes are expressed as a categorical data. Reducts as decision rules are used, because not a rough rule but a sure rule is necessary on the relation between attributes and classes in the knowledge acquisition for the design. Data referring to cars and reducts calculated from the data are displayed, and the expression as knowledge for the design is shown. It is explained that the recognition of human being is equal to characteristics grasp, and that a characteristics is equivalent to a reduct, and plural existence of reduct corresponds to the linkage structure in the human recognition. In addition, watching this correspondence, it is discussed that a design knowledge which can cover the diversity of human recognition is obtained by a combination of reducts. And, it was examined that optimality and creativity in the product development are related to the combination of reducts. Finally, it is shown that a selecting method of reducts and an expansion of the theory to be suitable for a property of Kansei data are problems in the future.

The purpose of this paper is to propose design guidelines for environmentally conscious products based on patterns in environmentally conscious bebaviors. First, consumers' buying attitudes and environmentally conscious behaviors were investigated using a questionnaire about eight products. According to different buying attitudes, consumers were classified into several groups using Factor and Cluster Analysis. Subsequently, the effect of consumer buying attitudes on environmentally conscious behaviors for each group was quantified by using the Structural Equation Model. The results showed a significant causal relationship between buying behaviors and environmentally conscious behaviors. Guidelines for the design of environmentally conscious products were proposed based on the above results.

Relationship between vibration discomfort and inter-subject variability of human seated in car seat was investigated. Subjects of 7 male and 3 female from 5 countries with diverse weight distribution participated in the experiment. Transmissibility to head, chest, abdomen, thigh and shank were measured for each subject at different discrete frequencies and the corresponding ride comfort evaluation was conducted. Total of 14 discrete frequencies of sinusoidal waveform in 2 to 15 Hz range were studied. The results, for subject of lightweight, ride comfort was found affected by mainly transmissibility in fore-and-aft direction. Investigation on the effect of phase lag found that lightweight subjects were more sensitive to head-related phase lag while heavyweight subjects were comparatively sensitive to chestrelated phase lag. Despite the various variabilities in each individual, it had been ascertained that transmissibility to chest in up-and-down direction displayed a significant indifference between subjects in the experiment. The main features of this study were the examination on the inter-subjects variabilities with regards to ride comfort, and the finding that similarities can be observed within individual variabilities.

Clothing reflects the status of the wearer. From the historical point of view, the appearance of clothing is dealing a lot with the textiles. Exquisite rich textures or woven with gold and silver threads for royalty and the rich. The functional and long-lasting fabrics were for the working class. In the post-modern era, the traditional clothing had reformed aggressively in the Malay culture. The strong influence and adaptation from Western had given them a different kind of social documentation in dressing the traditional clothes. Presented here is the attire that has stood the test of time- Baju Kurung and Baju Kebaya. Lately, young and old females wear these typed of clothes as daily wear. These researches were aimed to identify the common typed of traditional clothes worn among the females during working. It is also to identify females view on clothes as pleasurable state or desire state. These researches were evaluated by using various analyses such as demographic analysis and SD methods in order to obtain the results. They are two categories of clothes being identified as Traditional Typed and Neo- Traditional Typed. It showed the glimpse of both clothes were run across social borders of Malaysian doing their everyday things. Results demonstrated that females were tied with performing cultural identity and the transformation of clothing values for their fashion trends.
