ジャーナル フリーIn designing complex systems, it is difficult to apply design methods based on reductionism. We proposed a design method based on emergence (emergent design). The emergent design consists of the generation process and the optimization process. In the present study, many methods for the optimization process are proposed. This study attempted, therefore, to construct the system for the generation process. The objective of this system is to obtain unknown and diverse candidates for design solutions. In order to obtain solutions, genetic algorithm (GA) was used as the basis of the proposed system, and the proposed form-generation method was constructed by expanding cellular automata (CA). ジャーナル フリーThis article is a report within the series of study on the Origins and Evolution of the Urban Form. The city center of Vienna has a long history of more than 20 centuries. It provides a good base for study and therefore it was chosen as a case. The study is founded on the hypothesis in which several initial factors related with the natural background (topography and rivers), crossroad situation (destinations), growth of the city and man-made concepts had a decisive influence over the street pattern from the origin to the present. According to methodology the street pattern is decomposed on elements and classified in clusters. The analysis goes through several historical periods. The results of the analyses serve as input for the construction of evolutionary network, which becomes an analytical abstraction of the pattern from the maps and clarifies the origin and evolution of the pattern. It explains that the complexity of the pattern is caused by the appearance of new factors, development of different elements and their coherence with the succeeded one. ジャーナル フリーBy nature, the automotive driver's seat should be designed for work, while the passenger's seat should be built for comfort. This means that the functions of the seats are inherently different. Although many studies have been done on the driver's seat, the design and use of the passenger's seat have received little attention. This study examined a comfortable sitting posture in the passenger's seat. The results obtained have led to the development of two new devices. One device makes it possible for the seat cushion to move upward and forward as the seat tilts backward. The other device allows the upper portion of the seat back to tilt forward from the top of the lower seat back. These devices thus function to provide a comfortable sitting posture. This paper describes the new devices and presents the results of an investigation into a comfortable sitting posture for the occupant of the front passenger's seat. Factors discussed include the minimum cushion angle for preventing hip-sliding, allowable hip angle, knee angle and ankle angle for comfort, and physiological observations.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (693K) -

ジャーナル フリーIn this paper, we discussed on what the road should be and on the ideal model of communal society through the survey of a mountain village. We rediscovered the functions and meanings of the road as a communication. The results clarified the followings : 1) The village road has a community supporting interface as a place of learning, cooperating, communicating and working. 2) The village road entails a double spatial meaning : formal or ordinary, center or periphery, so it links man with man, man with God and this world with the world of the dead. 3) The village road is recognized as a unified phenomenon of time and place, so it works as a communicatin place for contacts between man and man.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (1332K) -

ジャーナル フリーFor children under age four, the options among prosthetic knees are less than ideal as all of the knees are made of metals being too heavy and/or large for toddlers. This study aimed at verifying the applicability of fine ceramics in pediatric prosthetic knee joint. A basic design was constructed and modified by CAD application to obtain a polycentric configuration. Four different combinations of materials-alumina/UHMW-HDPE, alumina/PCTFE, zirconia/UHMW-HDPE, and zirconia/PCTFE-were tested using FEM analysis. Results showed points of stress concentration. Therefore, a shock-absorption part made of elastomer, filled with CMC solution, and with discreet particles of PCTFE on its outside for low friction was introduced in the design and tested using the alumina/PCTFE combination. Models without particles and without shock-absorption part were also tested for comparison. Results demonstrated that the design using alumina/PCTFE plus the elastomer part with particles was the most successful, having the lowest rate of variation of stress, average and maximum stress.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (1949K) -

ジャーナル フリーGraphic thinking for the idea sketches brings about variations between abstract realm and concrete one, and between conceptual realm and perceptual one. When design information is projected to the thinking process, some images are generated, and transformed. We reviewed the sketching devices for computerization to deal with a lot of design data in the computing environment. The LCD Tablet can be a substitute for the Pen & Paper to get rid of irksome tasks at handling the design data. Using a protocol analysis technique, we examined the influences of different design information, which is consisted of verbal concepts and/or visual images, and abstract information and/or concrete one. The findings show that there are no significant differences of influences between verbal/visual information and abstract/concrete information at the conceptual design. A survey is held in Korea among university students about the recognition and image regarding the "Traditional Storage Containers" and "Modern Packages" which is made of plastic and mass-produced. As a result : (1)They do not have experienced the usage of "Traditional Storage Containers" in daily life, and it is not seen in common household. But, it is found that they have a consistent knowledge of the structure and formation of the container, the material used in it and the method of disposing it. (2)They know the garbage problem and environment pollution problem using the modern packages. Beside, it is found their attitude towards modern packages have changed from [disposal style] into [re-use style]. ジャーナル フリーThis paper aimes to report the result of investigation into the theory of mastermodels for industrial arts and its practical guidance by Bruno Taut (1880- 1938), a German architect, an adviser for the Industrial Arts Research Institute (IARI, Kogeishidosho in Japanese) attached to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce between November 1933 and March 1934. The paper is composed of ten sections. In the first four sections, in order to better understand the background of the studies, the paper describes how Japanese has understood Bruno Taut and how the studies on Bruno Taut have been developed. It also includes the purposes and activities of the IARl, Bruno Taut's life and how he came to be involved with the institute. ジャーナル フリーThe authors constructed an interactive exploration system based on evolutionary calculations in order to support the conception of car styling. The purpose of the present paper is to clarify the exploration aspect between 'with concept' and 'without concept' by comparison. At first, two comparative exploration testing had been done with an initial concept or without one by the system. The result reveals the difference of exploring aspect, the style, the distribution range, idea stage number, trajectories. After consideration of this aspect, the design concept could be effective to get final idea by concentration of exploration range and reduction of the exploration process. As for the trajectories of the selection idea, three patterns, Converging, Redirecting, Jumping of exploration should be observed in an exploration map. This research is an elementary stage.
