The design method of a character personality generally depends on the individual experience and the aesthetic accomplishment of the designer. This paper outlines the tendencies of a character personality design based on the analysis of 3D animation characters. Furthermore, this paper investigates the audience's cognition of character personality through a questionnaire. At the same time, the design features of a character personality are transformed into a concrete learnable mode and profile identity, thereby matching with the role character. In PIXAR movie animations, the face profile design of a negative character is inclined to be narrow and triangular. Moreover, the proportions of various facial features, such as the mouth and teeth, play an important role in the molding of the negative character, as observed in this study. The methods and procedures used in this study can be applied in the 2D emblem design of the character identity of both corporate and graphic characters (e.g., cartoons and dolls)

An easily recognizable traffic sign system should be capable of offering passengers effective service in terms of giving directions. A good iconic design should emphasize on the viewer's cognitive foundation for images. In this study, a pictogram is disassembled into several graphical elements, and recognition models for pictograms are set up using "design categories" and "visual recognition models." This study comprises three stages. Stage 1 involves designing the categories of pictograms developed through the focus group method and content analysis method. Stage 2 focuses on the visual recognition models of pictograms. Finally, Stage 3 relates to a recognizability survey for pictograms conducted with the "matching test." The study shows the following results. First, the "design categories" consist of "object," "situation," "function," "movement," and "logo."; Second, based on the mutual application of "visual recognition models" and "design categories", "object category" is recognized mostly using the "element extraction" model; "situation category" using "element extraction"; "function category" using "element template"; "movement category" using "element extension"; and "logo category" using "element template". Third, in designing the categories of the pictograms with high recognition rate, the combination of [object category+movement category] is most commonly used; for visual recognition models, the combination of [element extension + element extraction] is most commonly used.

Plastic surgeons create frame-works of external ears based on their kansei. The performances of the frame-works differ widely by surgeons' technique and artistic sense. Although the outcome of Yanada's external ear reconstruction using a single ear template is stable, it is too difficult to apply a single type of template to express the individual variations of patients' external ears. Thus, the aims of our study were to analyze curves of outlines of helix and antihelices of 50 normal subjects and to classify the curves in order to create templates as a guide for total ear reconstruction. Concretely, we took photographs of 50 subjects' external ears and abstracted the curves of their helix and antihelices from the photographs by image processing. Next, we analyzed characteristics of the curves by using those profiles of curvature and classified the curves into 3 types of curves in helix and 2 types of curves in antihelices. Lastly we made innovative 90(= 3 types*2 types*15 sizes) ear templates based on our study in order to express the individual subtle differences of the reconstructed new ear.

The experts'ideation mode of animation story is analyzed and sorted in this study. The three animation experts are experimented by Thinking Aloud on same task, and Retrospective Interview is taken to accomplish the examination in ideation. All the detail of ideation constructs the Linkography that is used to examine the idea generation, idea move and ideation development for the various experts. It is found that the senior animator have higher ability on shaping story, making decision and solving problem, resulted from the higher density of Critical Idea and Move link, and cluster. Furthermore, it is necessary to have backward link on cluster to be a richer ideation, as a professional animator. One want to be the most senior animator, need to have a prettier practicing experience to help one to process the ideation.

The paper investigates the characteristics of the traditional-cultural-resource based endogenous regional development in Sunchang County, North Jeolla, which has been implemented under the Regional Innovation System (RIS) since 2005. Go-chujang -a traditional Korean fermented food item produced in Sunchang has been endowed by the surrounding nature and local climate, The regional promotion supported by Gochujang can be characterized as follows: (1) Placing it in the core of development and creating the regional identity with it, the industrialization using daily life culture has been the driving force for the regional promotion, (2) The self-sufficiency of Gochujang has been faded out due to the change in the family and industrial structure. However the established linkages by RIS among the residents, municipal government, and national government have strengthen the competitive position among the other traditional fermented food industries in Korea, (3) For the sustainable Gochujang industry based regional promotion, it would be indispensable to assure the commitment and cooperation among the residents for conforming the same value toward Gochujang.

The affective effects of two-color combinations with achromatic components in young women were studied. A total of 246 color-combinations of achromatic and chromatic component colors, as well as combinations of different achromatic component colors, were chosen systematically from the ten Munsell hues. On the six, fashion-related scales, "noisy-quiet," "sporty-elegant," "strained-loose," "gorgeous-simple," "like-dislike," and hermonious-disharmonious," these color-combinations were rated by 50 female college students using the Osgood-type Semantic Differential. The result showed that achromatic color components with different values make different affective effects in color combinations including these conponents. Black components make the color-combinations are rated as more strained and more gorgeous and white comporment color-combinations are more favored and rated as more harmonious. Generally, combinations between lighter achiromatic colors and darker chromatic colors are judged to be harmonious. The combination between white and black is rated as the most harmonious of all color-combinations.

The paper aims to recognize the social value of Iejirushi-a house mark by observing and analyzing its features and the design culture of the past and today in Omata village, Sanpoku, Murakami, Niigata Prefecture. Forestry and agriculture are the main production activities there, supplemented by sake brewery and wooden buckets making in old days. The results of the investigation are:(1) A town movement posting individual signboards showing each Iejirushi was once successfully implemented, (2) Iejirushi used to function as a trade mark, (3) identifying almost all the house belonging tools and crafts by seal burning or ink-marking was the prevailing custom, and (4) Kijirush - a wood-cut mark made on the cut down logs do not differ from Iejirushi in terms of ownership identify. Shirushi-a mark is thus an expression of our regional life and constitutes an integral element of regional identify. It can be foreseen that recognition of this Shirushi culture leads to the effective regional brand formulation and branding of Iejirushi can be applied to many products of Omata.

Instead of text, usually web design experts suggest more proper images, especially human faces or figures, will evoke the viewers'sympathy and increase the attractiveness of the web pages. To investigate this design principle, this research introduced the ERP (Event-related potential) method to analyze viewers'brainwave component P300, N170, and N400 to compare the different visual stimuli-brief description (text), product photos, human face images, and body images. The result showed that the photos and human figures were confirmed positively for increasing attractiveness, diminishing the time of communication. But experts' suggestion is not always valid since sometimes the proper word impresses viewers more in the first glance, comparing to visual images.

Internet is a media for information exchange and experience transmission. The purpose of a website is to conduct the most efficient communication with the biggest group. For most of people nowadays, Internet is a livelihood necessity instead of a professional noun. As Internet users own more domination and options, they would disregard the information irrelevant to the products or information with which they are uninterested in. On the contrary, they could make free propaganda without any profits for the information or products at which they are interested in. In order to design an excellent system image, the designer should make the user's model compatible with the underlying conceptual model, the design model. In this study, we demonstrate a methodology for extracting and analyzing mental models by mixed method:IQA approach is based on the desire to combine the complementary strengths of qualitative and quantitative research. After comparing different mental models of web design team and Internet user, we can conclude that the web design team is analysis-orientated and self actualization-orientated; conversely Internet user is speed & efficiency-orientated and opposing negative images of web advertisement.

This paper carries out a classification of the existing interactive exhibits at a science museum. Various interactive exhibits are examined to identify their characteristics, which are used for evaluation purposes to create a matrix for evaluation of each exhibit. The Quantification Method III is used to elucidate the overall characteristics of the target exhibits. Cluster analysis is applied to these results so as to sort into groups. By plotting the target exhibits on 'the degree-of-freedom' and 'the development of understanding vs. the opportunities of learning' axes, it is possible to ascertain the characteristics of these exhibits. It is clear that six groups can be formed, each with different characteristics. Visitor interviews and video recordings are taken of visitors'utterances and behavior to examine how the visitors engage with the exhibits. From the data is compared to examine the relationship between the characteristics of the exhibits and the evaluations of the visitors, the popular exhibits tend to be 'physical entertainment' type exhibits where 'interaction between the exhibit and the visitor' and 'communication between visitors' occurred in more or less the same proportion. In other words, the exhibits that evoke interaction with the exhibit as well as communication between visitors in good balance are considered to be very enjoyable.

An ideal food package is supposed to make viewers associate it with some perception of tastes through visual stimulation. Human sensory system is interrelated. People link their senses through sensory organs or have associations among senses, and this is what we call "synesthesia". In order to explore the synesthesia between sense of sight and taste, packages in the shape of bottles were selected as samples for this study. The objective of the study is to explore the association between the shape of bottles and the sense of taste, and the research is divided into two phases. Phase One consists of conducting market surveys on the interrelationship between the shape of bottles and the taste of food contents. Phase Two involves exploring how viewers associate different tastes with varied bottle shapes, and evaluating the strength of association between bottle shapes and taste perception.
