Floating rice varieties from several Asian countries were classified by acid phosphatase and peroxidase zymograms. Of four genotypes expected, two genotypes, (
Acp1-4,
Px24c) and (
Acp1-4,
Px20), were observed in materials from Burma, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Above two and the other genotype (
Acp19,
Px20) were observed in India. Besides the three types, the fourth genotype (
Acp19,
Px24c) was observed in Bangladesh.
From the above finding together with the results of grain shape character, it was concluded that floating rice varieties have a wide genetic variation and can be classified into some varietal groups probably corresponded to Indica, Japonica and others.
