The objective of our investigation was to evaluate the effectiveness of subcutaneous atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) administration in normal dogs. We administrated subcutaneously recombinant ANP (25 μg/kg). Plasma ANP concentration rapidly increased and peak concentration of 591.5±143.0 pg/ml reached at 5 min after subcutaneous ANP administration. Area under the blood concentration time curve was 27,874 min·pg/ml and elimination half time was 18.9±3.7 min. Systolic blood pressure was decreased and urine volume was increased. However, electrolyte excretion was not significant change. Our results suggest that subcutaneous ANP administration had biological effects in normal dogs.
