Fifty water samples were collected from rivers and the inland sea of Okayama City to survey
Salmonellafrom July to August, 1986. Twenty-three amang 50 samples (46.0%) showed positive for
Salmonella, and it became clear that the occurrence of Salmonellaand numbers of fecal coliform and enterococci were correlated. At levels above the 1, 000 fecal coliform, or above the 100 enterococci per 100ml, the ratio of occurrence of
Salmonelladistinctly increased.
