We found an electrolytic treatment to be applied for decoloration in kraft pulp waste water.
The method takes advantage of aluminum hydroxide which is introduced by electrolysis from aluminum anode.
In the case of electrolytic treatment, ferric ion, aluminum ion, permanganate and hydrogen peroxide were added to the waste water.
We found that the color in waste water was removed under following electrolytic conditions : Distance between two electrode : 100mm, Current density : 200mA/50cm
2, Volume of sample water 500ml, pH value : from 3.20 to 4.20.
The best condition of decoloration was obtained by 9min-electrolysis, adding the ferric ion (20mg/
l) to the electrolyte. The waste water became entirely colorless.
When we added permanganate (40mg/
lO
2) to the electrolyte, the waste water became decolored and COD was decreased from 288.5ppm to 36.4ppm.
