Honshu Paper Co., Ltd. has now six paper mills, one chemical plant and one plastic film Plant. Among them, Kushiro mill, started in 1959 and located in Hokkaido, is the largest and newest paper mill.
Almost all of the products and raw materials are transported from/to Kushiro port. Kushiro mill was built in Hokkaido where rich raw materials for pulp are available, due to new technological developments in producing linerboard from hardwood.
Kushiro mill has four paper machines (two for linerboard 1, 169 t/ d, two for printing paper 363 t/d), five UKP lines and one line each for BKP, TMP, CGP, DIP and waste paper pulping.
The waste water (200, 000 m
3/d) is treated through an activated sludge system and four clarifiers.
The mill is situated in an area of around 2, 000, 000 m
2, and the number of employees is about 650.
