    This study performed consideration concerning the sustainability system of the island settlement in Setonaikai (Seto inland sea) besides the Iwaishima settlement. And the following was obtained. (1)The settlement constitutes space original with the settlement from under limited land conditions. (2)The element of a life and social composition of the settlement exists being connected with the space composition of the settlement. (3)The settlement is being continuously reproduced with original reproduction conditions.(4)The sustainability system of the settlement exists as support to the technical tradition for maintenance of the settlement.

    We have researched about locations, architectures, and functions of embassies in Japan to build the standard of the embassy’s research by using a lot of architectural records, diplomatic documents, and hearing of old nobilities. Our research is especially focusing on the case of United States, France, and Belgium, important diplomatic partners for Japan. As a result of this research, we confirmed embassies have been the “Symbols” of diplomatic relations.

    Kenchiku-Kohou (Buidling Construction Study) is established after the WW II and contributed to industrialization of building production in Japan. Yositika Utida who established this discipline, considered it as design methodology, and aimed thereby at rationalization of conventional construction system. However, through the industrialization and open-building concept in 60-70’s, Kohou changed from design theory to a production theory, which included the planning of a whole construction process (Kohou-Keikaku). Then, Modular-Coordination, regarded at first as design methodology, was understood as technique to organize a planning according life cycle of each building part and the sustainable appeared as scientific focus of Kohou-Keikaku.

    This research aims to suggest the possibility of the sense of community, ad-hock community, among the nomadic single household through the Homesharing which is an inter-generational living arrangement in which two or more unrelated people share a home which elderly owns. The requirements of ad-hock community were analyzed from 2 aspects, the factors of human relationships and physical floor plans. As a result, it is shown that duplicative function which is based on the concept of private and public, which is enable the residents to use the common rooms for different occasions and to control the distance by their choice.

    Though primary schools tend to reorganize in depopulation area, it is important for residents to keep their school in order to continue their community. This study aims to consider housing and residential supports for continuation of local primary school through three case studies about residents’ activity. The main findings are as follows. 1. Housing supply system and residential support system are organized and well functioning in these three cases. 2. Collaboration of the local government, primary school and residents’ activity are necessary to improve the supports. 3. School district is one of the key scales to work on the housing and residential supports.

    In this study, forming community activities in “Abiko condominium area”are placed as “21st century local community model ”. By the survey to the plural condominiums of this area, we investigated the following things, use of common facilities, collective living activities, human contact, and cooperation between the neighborhood condominiums. As the result of this study, it became clear that collective living activities in the huge-scale condominiums have some common points. And the direction of the local community creation in this area was revealed.

    Our research targeting children and adult persons with disabilities has made it clear that limitations exist for at-home bathing equipment, as do problems regarding the burden placed on caregivers. We conducted questionnaires surveys and visits to investigate the state of safe yet comfortable bathing environments and support as local issues. Results revealed high-level demand for bathing facilities, helpers and so forth in light of the physical burden on parents and the challenge of fulfilling both work and caregiver duties. We also came to understand that use of such services can lead to user participation in society, local exchanges, etc.

    The townsmen's living areas in the city of Edo were totally different from present Tokyo in spatial geometry and material. In the previous study, the summer thermal environment of the block (=Machiyashiki) in this residential area was studied from surface temperature, using numerical simulation. In this paper, summer thermal environment of several Machiyashiki, located next to the previous target site and contain vacant lands and gardens, was evaluated from Heat Island Potential, showing that vacant lands in the blocks have effect on reducing daytime heat island phenomena, and there was no tropical night in the target site.

    High frequency of flood damage and decreasing of development pressure lead to a high requirement and possibility of changing the structure of urban area through land use regulation. Also in the affected area of Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, land use regulation is being introduced for the risk management of Tsunami disaster through land use. The aim of this study is to clarify the actual situation of usage of land use regulation against flood disaster and its effects and problems (chapter 2), and of land use regulation against Tsunami disaster and its effects and problems (chapter 3).

    Based on the investigation of inner-city villages in Guangzhou city, China, the study is aimed to clarify both the main policies associated with the formation of urban villages and the spatial evolution process of urbanizing villages. Conclusions can be given as follows: 1) Under the influence of industrial upgrading and immigration since 1990s, those villages have brought about the industrial transformation from the primary industry to the secondary and the tertiary, accompanied by a huge amount of housing construction within themselves; 2) Based on the location and the influence of policies, inner-city villages still have their own spatial characteristics in the old residential area. Environmental improvement in residential area should be undertaken on the context.

    The purpose of this study is to reveal the true nature of detached houses of a city by looking at the characteristics and the transitions of Tokyo Sumida private houses. The depth of dirt floor and kitchen space from a street impinges on the way of urban living in the end of the early modern age and modern ages. To make an investigation into wife's whereabouts, fittings which divide an area into zones, or, which connect or link dirt floor and kitchen are surveyed. Along with an urban environment, Tokyo Sumida private houses vary continuously, people in these areas keep the existentialist character of their ideas. The depth of dirt floor and kitchen space from a street is a historic epitome of that.

    Dr.Kengo Murakawa who was the professor of Tokyo Imperial University, constructed own residence at Zoshigaya in 1911. Afterwards, he constructed villas at Katsuura, Abiko, Kugenuma, one after the other. The residence plan was based on Naka-roka(partition off areas by corridor in house) type, the popular plan of modern houses. And in addition, it was the rudiments one in that styles. But then, the villas were constructed by diverse plans. It was indicated his mind, adopted a new style of living actively when judged on a good case. And that was the consensus of middle class intellects in modern.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the condition of low rent private housing in Tokyo Metropolitan Wards using various data sources and to examine the possibility of socializing private rented housing. Results showed: (1)The quality of wooden rented houses were particularly poor, (2) there was a high percentage of single and aged tenants, (3)we described distribution maps of low rented housing, (4)non-market houses were of low quality but they played an important role for poor people, (5)owners had management problems because of their aging and, there were some issues in redeveloping low rent housing to affordable housing.

    The relation between ownership, uses and management of courtyards in courtyard style settlement of Nepal are analyzed to verify the management system of common space in a modern age. As a result, following discoveries are made. 1) Owning, using and managing a common space by the same actor is not always a rational management system. 2) The the management system, having various management actors and their different level of managerial activities according to the uses of courtyards, is more benefi cial to accommodate with unexpected problems compared to the management system where only a specifi c actor exists for management activities.

    This study surveys living conditions and residents’ intention to the settlement in coastal areas of Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture through interview and questionnaires to the residents. We analyze the data to figure out maintenance of social relations and intention of relocation to higher areas. 1) There is a major gap in the degree of intention to relocation, and so we divide them into 3 groups as the degree; reject, passive and positive. 2) The reject group consists of elderly and unwaged people, and they have day to day mutual assistance with the nearest neighbors alone. 3) Younger people seem to accept relocation, and therefore measures for driving relocation forward can be split into young and elderly people.

    Memory impairment in patients with Alzheimer's disease and dementia is a difficult problem. Physical abilities decline until it becomes older. This study of Elderly with dementia, the living space was to investigate whether there any features. To clarify whether there is any difference in the elderly who do not have the Elderly with dementia, I investigated the case of 12 patients. The results were found to be important cooperation and family, the services of assisted living for the elderly with dementia.

    Real estate trust and fixed-term land lease contract seems beneficial for welfare of the elderly and regeneration into city center. This research considers necessary measures to make them easy to use. Some of these measures probably include‘provision of wider dwellings for the elderly’,‘development of trust system suitable for provision of dwellings for the elderly’,‘accumulation of cases of redevelopment and regeneration in city center using fixed-term land lease.’
