This research project demonstrates the effective low energy measures for housing life in a local city in Tohoku district of Japan, Tagajyo. The more effective insulation measures, the shift to electric vehicles from conventional gasoline vehicles and installation of solar cells have been evaluated based on the survey of energy consumption of house operation as well as private cars. The result shows that it would be possible to reduce the energy consumption of detached houses in the city by 48% with these measures, in which the most effective measure was the installation of solar cells on the roof. Since there is the demand discordance between electricity generation by solar cells and electricity consumption by houses, the usage of electric vehicle batteries to store the excess electricity generated by solar cells has been evaluated. The result shows that 74% of the annual excess electricity can be utilized effectively by these electric vehicle batteries.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the validity of junior high school districts as the basis for setting official senior care service areas. The results of a survey of one hundred and seventy-five (175) senior people show that the actual living spheres of elderly people match, on average, two or three elementary school districts and that local organizations take responsibility in these elementary school districts. Therefore, it can be argued that junior high school districts are meaningful as the standard for official care service area settings, because they are a group unit of matching elementary school districts.

I pointed out that one originated as farmhouse and developed into rural-style town house, the other two styles came from outside of the island. I reasoned that two foreign types differ in a source and one came from the Echigo district on the other side of the sea, another style was the form carried in with formation of a mining town at the beginning of Edo period. This paper showed the regionality and universality which the town house of Japan has.

Our questionnaire survey and case study examined families that had undertaken the long-term at-home care of their ALS family members prior to that family member's passing. We came to the following main conclusions. 1) Elderly bereaved family members that had lost their ALS family members show a marked tendency to live alone. They tend to spend their time working or going out. 2) The time needed to restore a room in which an ALS family member had been at home, and thus for a home to return to normal day to day life, is about one year. This is triggered by the return of rentals or Buddhist rituals. 3) After the death of an ALS patient, the way in which a house is restored can be roughly classified into four types, namely, restoration, partial restoration, reconstruction, and no change. Most bereaved families undertook reconstruction. This trend was more frequently seen in urban LDK-type houses.

This article aims to analyze the supply trends in high-rise condominiums in Tokyo since 2000 and clarify the modes of expression in the advertisements designed for people to purchase these condominiums, using social theories of consumption. A scrutiny of these advertisements demonstrates that the modes of expression are constructed by the uneasy narratives stemming from the huge size and height specific to high-rise towers as well as the clichéd narratives about their facilities, safety and comfortableness. In addition, examining the conditions and narratives of high-rise condominiums in Manhattan, we offer a perspective for the comparative studies of high-rise condominiums.
