The major complication rate after tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA) was 4.0% (11 cases), including 10 cases of subsequent meniscal tear (3.6%) and 1 case of tibial shaft fracture (0.4%). In all the revision cases, lameness disappeared and functional recovery of stifle was observed. TTA is a safe surgical technique, resulting in only 4.0% of revision interventions. Complications can be prevented on the basis of the basic right meniscal treatment with accurate arthroscopic meniscal scrutiny, preoperative planning, and precise surgery.

We retrospectively reviewed 11 canine cases of malignant intranasal tumors treated with chemoradiotherapy. All the dogs received orthovoltage radiation in weekly 6.3 Gy fractions and multi-agent chemotherapy containing doxorubicin and carboplatin. The dogs were irradiated 4-11 times; the total dose of irradiation was 25.2-69.3 Gy. The median irradiation dose was 37.8 Gy. Clinical symptoms improved in 9 cases. Computed tomography (CT) images taken before and after treatment showed tumor regression in 8 cases; complete remission was achieved in 2 dogs and partial remission in 6. The median survival time was 478 days (99-969 days). Although adverse effects of radiation were observed in 7 cases, the symptoms were mild and improved with symptomatic treatment. In conclusion, our retrospective study suggests that chemoradiotherapy using orthovoltage might be effective for managing canine malignant intranasal tumors and for prolonging the survival period without affecting the quality of life.

Various types of specialized plates are available for tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO). The tibial plateau angle (TPA) and mechanical medial proximal tibial angle (mMPTA) were measured in cases in which TPLO was performed with a Slocum plate (SP), locking compression TPLO plate (LCP), and dynamic compression plate (DCP) at 0, 1, 2, and 3 months after surgery. Complications in LCP group tended to be fewer than the other groups. The recheck TPA after surgery in the SP and DCP group were significantly higher than that immediately after surgery, whereas there were no changes in the postoperative TPA over time in the LCP group. There were neither changes in the postoperative mMPTA over time in any group nor any significant difference in the ground reaction force among the three groups. These results suggest that LCPs are very useful to maintain the alignment of the proximal tibial fragment compared with SPs or DCPs, although other plates are clinically acceptable.

MRI and CT examinations were performed on a dog with central nervous system signs and a diagnosis of occipital depressed skull fracture was made. The boney fragments were removed surgically. During the surgery the fracture was found to be extending into the left atlanto-occipital joint, however neither repair nor arthrodesis of the joint were possible. The fragments were removed and the exposed cerebellum was closed using temporal muscle fascia. The patient lives normal life without any symptom or sequela now at a year post surgery.
