    1. The pH value of gastric juice in the rumen was in a range of 6.1 to 7.8. It was 6.9 to 7.0 in 20 cases, 6.7 to 6.8 in 14 cases, 6.5 to 6.6 in 13 cases, 7.3 to 7.4 in 12 cases, and 7.1 to 7.2 in 10 cases out of 86 examined.
    2. The 30-minute value of gas formation was in a range of 0.1 to 3.0 cc. It was 0.6 to 1.0 cc in 37 cases (57.8%), 0.1 to 0.5cc in 9 cases (13.5%), and 1.1 to 1.5cc in 8 cases (12.3%) out of 64 examined. The 60-minute value was 0.6 to 1.0cc in 23 cases and 1.1 to 1.5cc in 15 cases out of 61 tested.
    3. In an experiment on cellulose digestion, the time required for decomposition was within 50 hours in 27 cases, 51 to 70 hours in 10 cases, and over 71 hours in 24 cases out of 61 examined.
    4. In an experiment on nitrite reduction, the time required for the appearance of a peak of reducing power was 3 minutes in most of the first test tubes of 0.25cc, 5 minutes in most of the second test tubes of 0.5cc, 10 minutes in the third test tubes of 0.75cc, and 15 minutes in the fourth test tubes of 1.00cc.

The patient was a medium-sized mongrel bitch born in September, 1946. A black wart-like neoplasm of pea size was produced at the medial canthus of the upper left eyelid in August, 1960. It disappeared spontaneously in November, 1960. A neoplasm of the same sort appeared again at a site close to that mentioned above in August, 1961. It suddenly increased in size in December, 1961, and the patient was presented to the authors' clinic in April, 1962. When examined, the neoplasm spread all over the eyelid and was soft and fragile with its top affected with ulceration. It was proved to be melanoma by histological examination.
The melanoma was removed by surgical operation, but it appeared again with a rapid increase in size after about 3 months. The prognosis being not good, it was subjected to euthanasia upon request.
At autopsy, the melanoma extended from the medial canthus of the upper left eyelid, the conjunctiva, and adipose tissue of the orbit to the orbital surface of the zygomatic process of the frontal bone. It was 27×20×30 mm in size. The eyeball was oppressed to the bottom of the orbit. Histological examination revealed that it was a melanoma of high malignancy.
