When 103 healthy adult cows were examined, the average urea nitrogen content of serum and ocular chamber fluid (OF) was 15.91 and 15.62mg/d
l, respectively. The coefficient of correlation was 0.931 in 53 of these cows.
When 5 cows affected with urolithiasis were examined, the average content of serum and OF was 176.4 and 165.5mg/d
l, respectively, showing a high correlation. Therefore, the urea nitrogen content of OF was judged to be available for the diagnosis of uremia. This method seemed to be performed by a simpler technique and give a more stabilized value of estimation than the diacetylmonoxime method based on the action of other urease.
The same keeping quality was observed in OF as in serum. A rather stabilized value of estimation was obtained even when OF was collected from an eyeball stored at 5°C for 24 hours.
