11 cases of inclusion body hepatitis occurring at 6 pigeon houses in Kanto district, basophilic intranuclear inclusions were detected in hepatocytes as well as pancreatic, gizzard, intestinal and renal epithelial cells, hepatocytes had also eosinophilic intranuclear inclusions. Ultrastructurally, the hepatocyte inclusions contained adenovirus-like particles, and virus antigen was detectable by immunohistochemistry.

A swine isolate of reovirus type 2, OS-320 strain, was inoculated into a pig treated with prednisolone and 3 non-treated pigs. Only a immunosuppressant-treated pig showed mild respiratory signs and decreased weight gain. Virus was recovered from nasal swabs from 1 to 8 days postinoculation (pi) and from fecal specimens from 1 to 14 days pi. From a pig showing clinical signs and killed on 7 days pi virus was recovered from the tonsil and lung. Neutralizing antibodies were detectable at 7 days pi. Histopathologically nonpurulent interstitial pneumonia and mild catarrhal enteritis were observed in the immunosuppressed case and one non-treated case.

Colostrum and raw milk from four sero-positive and two sero-negative cows were examined for whey antibody to bovine leukemia virus (BLV) by agar gel immunodiffusion test. Colostrum whey from sero-positive (1: 2-1: 4) cows showed almost similar reaction irrespective of separation methods, while there were some differences between individuals and days after parturition. Raw milk whey from sero-positive cows showed weak-positive reactions after concentration to 5 to 10% in volume. However no clear positive reaction was seen with whey concentrated to 1 to 2% in volume.

A 14-day-old female Holstein calf was shown to have medulloblastoma with high cellularity in the vermis of the cerebellum. In some places, tumor cells were arranged in bundles or palisades. Some pseudorosettes (Homer-Wright) were seen, but true rosettes were rare. The neoplastic cells were small in size and had a round, ovoid, elongated or carrot-shaped nucleus, and most of them were positive for vimentin but not for neuron-specific enolase.

Adome-shaped tumor with the irregular surface 33×24×12mm in size occurring at the tip of the maxillary region in a 13-year-old castrated male Shih-Tzu was histopathologically diagnosed as malignant melanoma and subjected to premaxillectomy for removing the entire tumor. In a three-year-old spayed female mongrel dog with intermittent vomiting for 4 days, a fluctuant mass was palpated in the right cranial abdominal quadrant on physical examination. On abdominal radiography and ultrasonography, and by the intravenous excretory urogram, hydronephrosis of the right kidney was diagnosed. Exploratory laparotomy revealed hydronephrosis due to mesenteric hernia with incarceration of the right ureter and adhesion of the small intestine. Ureteronephrectomy and adhesiotomy were performed, and the patient has been in good condition 6 months after operation.

A male Iriomote cat (Felis iriomotensis) showing depression and anorexia died at Iriomote Island, Okinawa Prefecture, in February 1992. Autopsy revealed catarrhal and fibrinous pneumonia. Histologically, alveolar wall was edematous with infiltration of inflammatory cells and numerous Capillaria aerophila worms were pres-ent in the bronchiole and alveoli. In the colon Toxocara cati and Spirometra erinacei were detected. From the lungs and heart Pasteurella dagmatis was isolated almost purely, and the isolates were highly susceptible to benzeylpenicillin, oxytetoracycline and streptomycin.
