The incidence of tenosynovitis of the gastrocnemius tendons was surveyed with11, 577, 331 broiler chickens inspected at a poultry processing plant in Iwate Prefecture during 2 years from June 1994 through May 1996. For the disease 24, 198 out of 6, 702, 013 (0.36%) chickens and 12, 140 out of 4, 875, 318 (0.25%) were condemned in the1st and2nd years, respectively. The incidence of0.1 million birds was calculated, revealing that the ratios of male to female were 1: 2.4 and 1: 2.0 in Cobb (CB) and Arbor Acres (AA) strains, respectively and that the ratio of CB to AA was 2.1: 1 in both broilers and breeding hens. Significant differences were recognized in the incidences among respective areas, farms, or poultry houses, but not in the seasonal incidence.
