During the period from June through September, 1988, a helminthological survey on the basis of fecal examination was conducted on 149 racehorses reared at either the Ohi Racecourse (Tokyo) or the Kobayashi Stable (Chiba Prefecture). Helminth eggs were detected at a high rate of 94.0% in the horses examined: strongyle eggs (91.9%), tapeworm eggs (31.5%), and
Parascaris eggs (7.4%). No pinworm eggs, however, were discovered (0/73). Extremely high EPG value (1, 001-4, 000) were observed in 15.3% of strongyle infection of the horses. The EPG value tended to be higher in younger horses: 28.9% at 2 years of age, 13.3% at 3 years, 9.1% at 4 years, and 5.0% at 5 years.
