The fluoro compounds for lubricants, such as hexakis (1, 1, 5-trihydroperfluoropentyloxy) cyclotriphosphazene (I) and perfluoropolyether (II), were examined comparatively concerning their chemical stabilities toward AlCl
3 at various temperatures. (I) was found to be an excellent lubricant as its decomposition occurred little and only a small amounts of phosgene evolved by heating in the presence of AlCl
3. While (I) gave only small amounts of chlorine-containing compounds above 80°C in the presence of AlCl
3 (50%), (II) decomposed considerably, producing the chloro compounds with low molecular weight by the breakdown of main chain. At the reaction temperatures of 60-120°C, (I) were recovered more than 95% by the 1, 1, 2-trichlorotrifluoroethane (F-113) extraction. (II) recovered by the F-113 extraction decreased from 100% (23°C) to 41% (120°C) with the increase of reaction temperature. The amounts of phosgene evolved in the reaction of (I) and (II) with AlCl
3 were 0.0099 and 20.7 g/l at 100°C, respectively.
