There is a limit to what economic policy can do to revive the Japanese economy. The existence of venture capital and businesses with a strong feeling of entrepreneurialism is as a result of the strong leadership and entrepreneurial spirit of the leader. The second point is the fact that many corporations have lost their competitiveness and are afraid to take risk. Thomas A. Edison (1847-1931) left nearly 5000 volumes of notebooks (called as Edison paper) in his life, which are all safely kept in Edison Historical Site Museum in West Orange, New Jersey. Since I started to focus on Edison paper 25 years ago, I visited the Museum two times to see Edison paper under special permission. Through my research, I thought I found some key answers to my question of "How Edison made so many important inventions." In this article, I list up Edison ways of invention which are still fresh, useful and valid today. As I myself is a founder of "Idea-Marathon System (IMS)" by which I have been writing down my ideas in 415 notebooks for 30 years, I feel how Edison thought it important to think and immediately write ideas everyday into his notebook. Edison wrote his ideas about 20 pages every day and finished one notebook one week. I could imagine, in front of his notebook on his desk, Edison was squeezing his ideas. I felt Edison is an ancestor of Idea-Marathon System. I would like to appeal to all researchers and inventors of the world to reevaluate of Edison ways of invention.
This note examines the role of financial education in management of technology (MOT) schools. We first review financial innovation in the 1990s, when there were close relations between MBA schools and financial institutions. In contrast to MBA schools (which teach financial engineering), MOT schools do not directly teach business innovation. Furthermore, as the role of the MOT school is to educate innovators rather than teach innovation per se, technology management is not as popular as financial engineering. Financial education at MOT schools trains engineers to understand executive thinking and to get a feel for the global marketplace. In this paper, we discuss the aims and effectiveness of financial analysis exercise and financial engineering education at the Shibaura MOT school.
