Many reports indicate that acupuncture stimulation has produced a favorable effect on the cure of serility and menstrual irregularity. And yet to date the mechanism by which acupuncture causes such effect on the ovary and uterus has not been clear nor have there been any objective data published for it.
In this situation, we undertook a fudamental investigation of this mechanism in an attempt to throw any light on it. More specifically, we observed what effects acupuncture stimulation causes on hormones which are associated with menstrution and ovulation such as estradiol, progesterone, FSH, and LH in the blood.
For the purpose of this invstgation and observation, several skin points were selected on the subject in accordance with an old known Chinese theory as well as from our past experiences. With a short duration of strong stimulation and a needle stuck in the skin, measurments were made of the blood hormones in the menstrual cycle.
At this time we have discussed changes iu FSH, LH, progestrone, and estrodiol in the blood caused by the stimulation on DAIKAKU. In our investigation, changes of FSH and LH were observed by means of the RH-LH intravenous injection.
Through acupuncture stimulation on DAIKAKU, it has become evident to us that acupuncture produces changes in hormones in the blood, though these changes are different depending on the interval of premenstruation, post menstruation, or ovulation.
