There are established teaching methods in classical ballet. However, many of the classical ballet teachers in Japan do not learn these teaching methods. Additionally, official license for certified teacher do not exist in Japan. Therefore, this study discussed how to develop education systems for teachers in classical ballet focusing on license system in Japan. Japanese ballet dancers were interviewed. As a result, many of the dancers hove been feeling the situation as a problem. They also think it is difficult to establish license system in Japan due to the reasons such as deciding effective issuing organization, setting standards and levels, and managing the balance with existing non-licensed teachers. The Japan Sports Association issues license for coaches in many other sports. Pros and cons which have been indicated in those license systems have many in common with what the dancers have concerned if it was applied for classical ballet. If the requirement increased, it would be beneficial to examine the pros and cons of license systems in other sports when establishing license system in classical ballet.
