    In this report, we observed the time lag in ignition when wood is exposed to the const. high temp. (500~800°C), and we also observed the effect to the time lag of the factors such as heated area, heated temp., thickness of board, water contained, roughness of surface, oldness, etc. The following results were obtained :
    (1) The time lag is increased rapidly with the decrease of temp. as shown in the following formula.
     log τ =(A/Ⓗ)+B
     τ : time lag.
     Ⓗ : heated temp. (°K)
     A, B : const.
    (2) The time lag is increased linearly with the increase of water volume contained in wood.
    (3) The thickness of the board and heated area have no connection in the time lag excepting both are very small.
    (4) Oldness of boards, roughness of the surface, etc. have almost no relation on the time lag.
    (5) The time lag in ignition of hard wood is larger than that of soft wood.

    As the first step of our investigation into a fire phenomenon caused by leakage of electricity in the wall of a wooden building mortared on wire lath, we studied what phenomenon will come about when the leaked current flows into the contact part of the lath.
    If electric current flows into the contact part of lathes in the open air, putting on more electric pressure to them, the contact part may be fused or shows an arc discharge. It was found that in the latter case, the special curve indicating the relation between the current and voltage shows a drooping tendency ; the alternating current hysteresis, discharging voltage wave and other characteristics of this arc are similar in nature to those of the natural a. c. arc discharge ; and the heat generated in the arc increases as time goes by.

    The vertical distribution of the upward velocity and the temperature in the convection stream from a heat source in a calm atmosphere was discussed. The author solved the problem on the lines of Prandtl’s mixing length hypothesis and the three dimensional problem from a point source of heat and the two dimensional problem above a long line source were treated. The results are as follows ;
    rr-1/3,      Δθz-τ/3………a point source of heat.
    ω=constant, Δθ∝z-1………a long line source of heat, where ω and Δθ are the upward velocity and the difference between the temperature of the stream and that of ambient air respectively, z is the vertical distance from a source. These results were checked by the experiments. The vertical distribution of the upward velocity and temperature in the ascending stream from the burning alcohol and electric heater were measured.

    We propose a new type of fire proof door which is suitable for the protection of openings of fire resisting wooden houses.
    This fire proof door is based on the very low absorption of radiation of the aluminium foil surface. The main part of the door is constructed by an wooden board and a galvanized iron sheet with some air space between them, the inside surface of the wooden board being covered with aluminium foil and the iron sheet is faced outside.
    This fire proof door resists to the standard heating for outside fire of second degree according to JIS A 1303.

    It is necessary to prefer suitably the size of water drops and the rate of water supply in order to extinguish fire effectively with limited capacity of water. Upon this, for an object to extinguish fire in first stage like in a room, we piled up 2.5kg of wooden rectangular rods dried by air and set fire to this frame on which water drops of definite size were poured uniformly. The change of flame height and temperature in the frame were measured with time. Changing the size of water drop and the rate of water supply, similar experiments were performed. The results obtained as follows.
    (1) Water drops of 20mm in diameter extended on paper are most effective on fire-extinguishing. Even in dry condition as winter in Japan, the fire of this frame is immediately extinguished by this drops with the rate of supply 10~11 l.m-2. min-1.
    (2) Water drops above 30mm or under 10mm in diameter extended on paper inferior to those of 20mm under the condition of same rate of water supply.
    (3) Water drops of under 1mm in diameter extended on paper are necessary to be gushed out under high pressure.

    Model rooms of reinforced concrete were used for experiments of combustion on which the combustion speed, the flame temperature and CO2, O2% in dry exhaust gas were measured.
    Their results were compared with a theory of combustion inside a room that is examined.

    The burning of paper is often used to study the phenomena of fire. The precious investigations of fire of Dr. T. Terada, Dr. S. Suzuki and Dr. T. Kimbara are also experimented by papers.
    Author is going to examine the relation between the fire and the burning of paper analysing the influence of cut or preventing hole which is marked in the paper in place of river or road in a town.
    Some results have been obtained as the followings ;
    (1) The new treatment of experiment is very suitable for this study.
    (2) Author get an approximate formula between the velocity of wind and the inclination of desk.
    (3) The velocity of flame spread increases the speed by the wind volume.
    (4) The velocity of burning decreases the speed from a critical value of the wind volume.
    (5) In general, the velocity of flame spread increases the speed by the existence of hole.
    But it decreases the speed in special case.

    A description is given of the production and performance of a variable foam generator for use in laboratories with mechanical foams. The generator is different from the one which produced by F. J. Fry and R. J. French (J. app. chem., 1 425 (1951)) on the several points.
    The latter applied high pressure (100#/") to obtain high dispersion, but the former less than 1 atm.
    The high dispersibility of the author’s generator in such a low pressure is due to using the sieb plate.
    Data was given on the following items :
    (1) Variation of shear stress of foam with expansion factor.
    (2) Effect of number of wire gauze with which the viscosity of foams was increased, on shear stress of foam.
    (3) Effect of flow rate of air-foam solution on shear stress of foam.
    (4) Comparison of shear stress of foam, discharged from the generator and from the foam nozzle.

    Authors studied on the method of execution of joint portion of fire proof wood and fire retardant paint. In this study for the joint portion and material are possessed with the same property of fire proof studied the following way.
    (1) Fire proof wood
    The results are as follows :
     (i) panel strip
    (2) Fire Retardant Paint
     (i) panel strip.
     (ii) vinyl tape strip
     (iii) feather boarding
     (iv) vinyl tape and panel strip
    (1) Fire proof wood
     (i) The standard density of solution of fire proof chemical for processing is very suitable 10% solution (NH4)2HPO4, and the water content at the time of use shall be less than 20% because of the material to avoid the shrinkage at the time of drying.
     (ii) When less than 3cm width of panel strip are cracked from these results, the minimal thickness of panel strip shall be use 0.7cm and 3cm minimal width.
    (2) Fire retardant paint
     (i) The thickness of panel strip shall be use 0.5cm and 2cm width.
     (ii) Vinyl tape are produce effects for the use of without joint of materials.

    In the former report, the rational value of water had been calculated and analized in one example of the dwelling house. In this report, the same calculation and analysis executed for the example of the office building under two conditions of a imaginary fire. The procedure of the calculation was as follows.
    1. Decision of the plan, the structure and the finish of the office building.
    2. Calculation of the surface area of the timber in each room — apparent and total surface area.
    3. Calculation of the carbonized depth of the timber due to the proceeding of the fire.
    4. Calculation of the rational value of water per unit area of the timber by the experimental formula.
    5. Calculation of the rational value of water of each room and the total value.
