The purpose of this study is to evaluate two fabrication methods (direct method, indirect method) of a simple AMP and evaluate its treatment effect for the patients with OSAS by using polysomnography (PSG) and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) before and after AMP therapy. Thera Snore^<TM> (Distar) was used as AMP in this study. Fabrication method of this AMP was a direct method indicated by the manufacturer. We designed an indirect method and compared it with the direct method. To evaluate the treatment effect of this AMP, five OSAS patients (4 males and 1 female) were involved. Mean age was 59.8 years and body mass index (BMI) was 26.1. Each patient underwent PSG and ESS before and after AMP therapy and evaluated apnea index (AI), apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), Lowest SpO_2, arousal index, and ESS. Our indirect fabrication method was better than direct method from the viewpoint of the fitness and the protection of mucous membrane from scald. AI was improved from 5.5±4.04 to 2.3±3.86. AHI was improved 20.8±14.99 to 8.8±9.04. Lowest SpO_2 was improved from 81.0±9.08% to 86.6±6.73%. Arousal index improved 31.6±10.26 to 25.5±10.37. ESS was improved from 10.6±1.95 to 6.0±3.08. It was suggested that the indirect method was better than the direct method for fabricating the AMP which was used in this study. It was also suggested that this AMP was useful for the treatment of the patients with OSAS.
This survey was based on the analysis of biopsy specimens that were diagnosed histopathologically in Department of Oral Pathology, Kyushu Dental College, from 1991 to 1995. This report presents the types and frequency of 1, 603 cases of oral lesions. The results are as follows : The ratio of male to female was 1.01 to 1. The cystic lesions revealed the largest group in this series and composed 670 cases (41.8%) of all 1, 603 cases, followed by tumors 386 cases (24.1%), oral mucosal lesions 216 cases (13.5%) and others. Listed in order of frequency, the most common disease was radicular cyst 241 cases (15.03%), mucous cyst 145 cases (9.04%), squamous cell carcinoma 106 cases (6.61%), and dentigerous cyst 97 cases (6.05%) of all 1, 603 cases. Compared with many other reports, these results indicated that no significant differences in the order of a higher frequency of Oral lesions on all cases.
To make clear the characterization of first-appointed patients at the clinic of operative dentistry and endodontics, Kyushu Dental College Hospital, we investigated the data of those patients who came here during the three years from April, 1997 to March, 1999, and sorted them by age, sex, residing area, chief compliant, introduction, diagnosis, and treatment. The total number of first-appointed patients during the three years was 1534 which consists of 581 males (38.0%) and 952 females (62.0%). By age, the largest group was patients in the forties (18.0%), and groups of patients at ages from 20 to 69 were 83.7% of the total number. Patients from Kokurakita-ward showed 24.6% of this total, and patients from the whole wards of Kitakyushu-city showed 76.4% in all. The ratios of introduction from outside of this hospital and other clinics of this hospital were 19.5% and 28.0%, respectively. These patients without introduction showed 52.5% of all. Forty-three percent of these patients (non introduced), had a family dentist. The ratio of introduced patients increased more than that of last investigation. Patient diagnosed as having a disease related to operative dentistry, endodontics or periodontics was calculated to be 24.7%, 40.1%, and 30.7%, respectively. During the three years period, the total endodontic treatments were 32.4%, and restorative treatments and periodontic treatments were 15.5% and 21.2%, respectively. Re-treatment ratio was as high as 67.5%, which meant that the dental treatments should be reconsidered for a better result in the near future.
Relapse cysts in left mandibular were experienced in a woman who was diagnosed as osteogenesi imperfecta type I with dentinogenesis imperfecta type I. We treated her for five years with surgical operation twice, however, the cyst reappeared. The cyst was diagnosed as simple bone cyst. The patient is followed periodically and the third operation is in planning.
