1) The difference of the pulse rate according to whether the person is standing or lying down in healthy Japanese adult, is from 5 to 6, while in the case of tuberculous patient, it is from 10 to 13 (for 1st stage male patient, 10.64 ± 3.724 for 2nd stage male patient, 12.94 ± 5.070; for 1st stage female patient, 12.55 ± 4.220), being twice as many as the former.
From the above, we may conclude that this phenomenon is probably due to the strained condition (vagotonic) of the pneumogastric nerves of the patient.
2) The pulse difference (12.94 ± 5.070) of 2nd stage patient is far greater than that (10.64 ± 3.724) of 1st stage patient.
From this we see that this difference which aries from physical condition is remarkable.
3) The pulse difference of 1st stage patient, which varies through the day, is at its highest (11.08 ± 4.660) in the morning, lower (10.96 ± 4.376) in the evening and lowest (10.90 ± 4.254) at night.
4) The pulse difference (12.55 ± 4.220) of 1st stage female patient is somewhat greater than that (10.64 ± 3.724) of 1st stage male patient.
