Toyoda-Yang are of opinion that the tubercle bacilli in living tissue have a stronger infecting power than the cultured bacilli when subcutaneously injected into animals suscepted to tuberclosis. Tayui and Paraf hold the same view, while Hiroshige and Keller, oppose to this opinion. Thus the question has not been settled yet.
The author, finding that the former investigators have used bacilli of a we a k virulence and the latter those of a strong one, used both kinds of bacilli in compar ing their reinfecting power.
1. The bacilli in the living tissue have a strong reinfecting power than those cultured when they are of a weak virulence. The reason is that the bacilli in the tissue have acquired an antigermicydal character in the tissue as Toyoda-Yang have demonstrated.
2. There is no difference in the reinfecting power between the bacilli in the tissue and the cultured bacilli when they are of a strong virulence, for the reason that the cultured bacilli of a strong virulence already have a antigermicydal character.
3. The author demonstrated through experiment that the difference in the results of other investigators in regard to the reinfecting power of the bacilli in the tissue is due to the difference in the virulence of the bacilli, employed in their observations.
