    Phosphoenolpyruvate : lactose phosphotransferase (lac-PTS) activity in toluene-decryptified Staphylococcus aureus cells was determined with o-nitrophenyl-β-D-galactoside (ONPG) as substrate. Maximal activity was obtained when 10ml of washed, concentrated cell suspension in a 50ml Erlenmeyer flask was treated with 50μl of toluene for 30min at 37C with gentle shaking. Data indicated that the enzyme might still be inactivated considerably under the conditions of decryptification.

    Synthesis of sugar-specific components of phosphosphoenolpyruvate : lactose phosphofransferase system (lac-PTS) in Staphylococcus aureus AF 121 was induced by galactose and lactose. No induction was obesrved with IPTG ; instead, it repressed strongly the uninduced synthesis of the enzymes. Glucose and other metabolizable sugars mannose, fructose, and mannitol-repressed the enzyme synthesis both in the presence and absence of the inducer, galactose. Unexpectedly, the repression appeared to be much stronger on uninduced than induced synthesis of the enzymes, suggesting that the induction and the repression might compete at some step(s) in the enzyme synthesis. An extremely strong repression comparable to that by glucose was observed with 2-deoxy-D-glucose(2DG), inducating that metabolism beyond 6-phosphorylation was not required for 2 DG and glucose to exert their repressing actions.

    Tne cytotoxicity of the Sm-Co_5 magnet was assayed by the tissue culture of two species of strain cells which were cultivated in the presence of this magnet and its components, and the magnetic field ; the growth rates and the morphological changes of FL cells, and the karyotype of WI-38 cells were employed as criteria for the cytotoxicity in comparison with the findings of the control cells. Sm, Sm-Co_5 alloy non-magnetized, Sm-Co_5 magnet caused no detectable or no definite cytotoxic effects which were the inhibition of cell growth and the morphological changes of FL cells. Meanwhile, Co showed high cytotoxicities to FL cells ; each of them induced the inhibition of cell growth, and rounding of cell accompanied with lysis and collapse. The magnetic field of Sm-Co_5 magnet as well as that of Sm-Co_5 alloy non-magnetized induced no chromosomal aberrations over the upper limit of acceptability. These findings support the adaptability and no cytotoxicity of Sm-Co_5 magnet to the human body.

    Streins of Streptococcus mutans were isolated from dental plaque of 3 years old children anch idd's mother. Stseptococcus mutans were biotyped on the basis of their biochemical reactions. On the basis of their biological reaction 34 strains belonged to biotype I and streins to biotype IV. Other biotypes were not found.

    The purpose of the present research is to investigate life views of the students studying child education by comparing them with those studying food and nutrition. A questionnaire consisting of 20 items was administered to 158 students in the department of child education and to 232 students in the department of food and nutrition. Marked differences were found between the students of child education and those of food and nutrition. These differences are as follows : (1) Smaller numbers of students of child education worry about life than those of food and nutrition. (2) The students of child education are poorer than those of food and nutrition at subjects which contain abstract elements, while they are better than those of food and nutrition at subjects which contain concrete elements. (3) The students of child education are better able to speak their opinion actively in front of people than those of food and nutrition. (4) More students of child education than those of food and nutrition are satisfied with themselves. (5) More students of child education than those of food and nutrition are satisfied with the way they were brought up by their parents. (6) More students of child education desire an early marriage than those of food and nutrition. (7) More stududents of child education think it important to bring up their children by themselves, because they find it more worth-while than do the students of food and nutrition.

    Li-PPh_2 reacts with R-I (R : CH_3,C_2H_5) in the mole ratio 1 : 2 to give phosphonium iodide [PR_2Ph_2] I directly. The phosphonium salts of the type [PRR'_3]X, [PR"_4]X (R : CH_3 ; R' : C_6H_5 ; R" : CH_3,C_6H_5 , X Cl^-, Br^-, I^-) have been widely known to act as counter ions^1 In them, [Pme_4]Br is particurally known to lead to a chelating phosphonium ylide (CH_3)_3P=CH_2^2 for the metal complexes . Yet, di-ethyldiarylphosphonium salt has been elusive. The direct reactions of Li-PPh_2,which has been previously prepared by dealing PPh_3 with Li, with twice molar quantities of R-I (R : Me, Et) give [PR_2Ph_2] I*, possibly via PRPh_2^3 as shown in Scheme 1. ^1H-nmr evidencies for the compounds are as following : [Pme_2Ph_2] I^4 : δ_Me 2.89 PPM doublet (3), Jp-_H 14 Hz, δc-_H (Ph) 7.66 PPM multiplet (5) ; [Pet_2Ph_2] I : δMe (C_2H_5) 1.20 PPM doublet of triplet (3), Jp-_H 19 Hz, δ_C_H_2 (C_2H_5) 3.06 PPM doublet of quartet (2), Jp-_H' 14 Hz, J_H-_H' 8 Hz, δc-_H (C_6H_5) 7.70 PPM multiplet (5). [chemical formula][chemical formula][chemical formula][PR_2Ph_2]I Scheme 1 The metathesis of [PR_2Ph_2] I with AgClO_4 or NaBF_4 easily proceed stoichiometrically, but no reaction with NaBH_4 or LiAIH_4 even in boiling methanol can occur.

    A potentially five coordinate Pd(II) Complex, [PdCl(PPh_3)_2(phen)] [BF_4]-(CH_3)_2CO has been prepared by reacting [PdCl(PPh_3)_3] [BF_4] with potentially bidentate N-heterocyclic ligand 1,10-phenanthroline. The latter complex is isoelectronic structure with Wilkinson complex RhCl(PPh_3)_3. By ^31P{^1H}, ^1H-nmr, and electronic spectroscopy, the dynamic structure of the complex is proposed. The X-ray single crystal struclure analysis has been performed in the noncentrosymmetric space group Pna2_1,which is unfortunately defined that the entrie structure needs to be converted to the controsymmetric space group Pnma. The crystal structure of this denotable five coordinate ccmplex thus determind with R value false minimum is nevertheless providing an approximate aim of the re-refined structure. Therefore, as a critical evaluation, a structural factor tables and a formal structure view in the noncentrosymmetric space group Pna2_1 are daringly described in this paper.
