Syntheses of the title Pt(II) compounds including γ-mono and disubstituted β-dicarbonyls by sulfur and selenium atoms and tetraketone {γ, γ'-bis (β-dicarbonyls) = 1,1,2,2 -tetraacetylethane} under basic conditions are briefly reviewed. The new linkage modes of these 31 ligands to Pt (II) have been established by IR, ^1H, ^13C, and ^31P NMR, and Mass spectroscopy, and X-ray diffractive study.

A case of Merkel cell carcinoma of the skin in a 67-year old female was reported. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that cytoplasm of many tumor cells was positive with neuron specific enolase(NSE) in diffuse pattern, and keratin was localized at perinuclear cytoplasm in dot pattern. Subunits of keratin, MA902,AE1/3,CAM5.2 were positive but MA904 was negative. Electron-microscopical studies showed that not a few of the dense-cored neuroendocrine granules in cytoplasm were present beneth the plasma membrane and perinuclear filament whorl was also present. The study conformed that these findings are considered to be valuable markers for diagnosis of Merkel cell carcinoma.

The V02max is known as a certain parameter that evaluate the performance of atheletes. We examined the V02max in subjects with fourteen male long distance runners in same high school team in kochi prefecture, and evaluated its effectiveness of training as their cardiorespiratory function, and relationship with possibility of their performance on running for 10km long road distance. The results were as follows : 1. The average actual VO2max and estimated V02max were 54.29±7.07ml/kg/min and 61.62±4.30ml/kg/min, respectively and the actual V02max was lower than the estimated V02max. The average V02 at VT that were 37.42±3.57ml/kg/min and 66.1±5.4%V02max. 2. During a certain training period since April to November, we examined the training efficacy as follows ; (1) improvingpredicable V02max, (2) decreasing H・R at V02max, and (3) improving relationship between V02 and H・R effectively. 3. We examined high correlation in statistically between relative V02max or VT and time record for 10km long distance running on the road, r=0.77 and r=0.67,respectivery.

A typical case of malignant pleural epitherial mesothelioma in a 42-year old man was reported. Mucohistochemical studies showed that hyarlonic acid was Positive in the tumor cells. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that keratin, MA904 and EMA were positive, but CEA, vimentin, LeuM1 and MA903 were negative. Ber-EP4 was positive at surface membrane of a few cells. The causative relation with asbestos exposure is unclear.

A purpose of this study is to examine how influence the individual characteristic of the club members and their captain leadership to their satisfaction (to their captain, to their club activities, and to their school lives) . The effect of the captain lead ership on the member's satisfaction differs according to their individual characteristics. Their individual characteristic were classified according to the degree of positiveness (high or low) to club activities and to their school works. Subjects are 495 students of junior and senior high schools, who are currently active in extracurricular athletic clubs. This relationship was examined by the method of analysis of variance , individual characteristics of the follower (4) × the leadership of the captain (3). . Significant results were as follows : (1) according to the individual characteristic, the relation between the captain leadership and the follower's satisfaction with their captain was different in club activities ; (2) there were positive relations among the satisfaction with the class works by the followers, their individual characteristics, and the leadership style of their captain. These three factors are remarkably influenced with among others. These results may suggest us to lead students to be in their successful school lives through the athletic club activities.

Recent activities (1990-93) at Biology Laboratory, Kochi Gakuen College were briefly reviewed. These studies were financially supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Japan (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, no. 364244,and no. 2804059), Research scholarship from the Nippon Paint Company, and the Supporters' Association of Kochi Gakuen College. Material was obtained from various places in Japan and from the abroad (Canada, Continental United States of America, Hawaii, Finland. Sweden, and Germany). By using thallus fragments lichens can be cultured in vitro in the form of their bionts separately or together. Under very poor nutrition lichen cell aggregates of both bionts can form their thallus similar to the natural form. Characteristic lichen substances were sometimes produced in lichen cell aggregates or lichen mycobionts. Reformed thalli can produce the same characteristic lichen substances as in their natural thalli. By using lichen cell aggregates many biological approaches can be possible. A list of published papers as well as presented papers in several conferences was provided.

The data of Rt (retention time) and its UV spectrum of C_1 depsides (including their phenol carboxylic acids and their esters) were obtained by using three dimensional high performance liquid chromatography. By using these data, C_1 depsides as well as their monocyclic compounds (phenol carboxylic acids and their esters) can be identified with a few exceptions. However, if used with the data of Rf values of TLC, C_1 depsides and their related monocyclic compounds can be identified by three dimensionsnal high performance liquid chromatography.
