The distribution of the cut depth resulting from the nozzle-blasting as applied perpen-dicularly to the work surface is represented by an equation [numerical formula], where y is the cut depth ; x, the radial distance from the centre to that point ; and C, the constant depending upon the working conditions and the work. Therefore, it is not simple to obtain the travelling speed for the required surface to be worked by the travelling nozzle-blasting. When a level surface is blasted by the nozzle travelling from a to b, the distribution of cut depth f(x) is expressed by the following equation : [numerical formula] where C
0 is the constant depending on the working conditions and the work (which the author calls "coefficient of blast cutting"), and u(ξ) is the weight of grit blasted while the nozzle travels a unit distance. The numerical solution of u(ξ), when f(x) has a unit value, is shown, and the cut depth f(x) is obtained ana1ytically when the value of u(ξ) is given. Moreover, the results are analized when the above mentioned operation is repeated with the nozzle shifted each time at certain intervals of distance. The application of the results to the stripping of painted sides of rolling stock is described with a numerical example.
