Recycling of the waste bed logs for cultivation of Lentinuh edodes (Berk.) Pegler as the resource for sawdust substrate in the the cultivation of Pleurotus cornucopiae Rolland var. citrinopileatus was investigated. The days required for fruiting initiation and for harvest of fruit bodies on various sawdust media showed no significant differences among those tested. However, the sawdust medium from the waste bed log produced somewhat higher crop yield than the other sawdust media. Furthermore, the sawdust meidum with rice bran or wheat bran as an additive showed the highest crop productivity in all of the media tested. These results suggest that the sawdust from waste bed log can be used as the resource for the cultivation of P. cornucopiae, and it might be more suitable sawdust substrate than those prepared from hard- and soft-wood materials to be generally used in the cultivation of this mushroom.
