    (1) A twelve-hour period of total body hypothermia in the recipient in the early post-grafting period was associated with a prolongation of survival of skin allografts in rats.
    (2) This effect was greatest when hypothermia was induced beginning twenty-four hours after grafting, but some effect was evident when the hypother-mia was induced immediately after grafting or seventy-two hours after grafting.
    (3) The lymphopenia that results from prolonged hypothermia may play a role in the effect observed.

The poor recipient ability of Salmonella typhimurium LT-2 for the transfer of genetic material from Escherichia coli K-12 was found to be due to host-con-trolled restriction and modification. Rfer 1 mutants of LT-2 with increased re-cipient ability were shown to be deficient in restriction and modification. Rfer 2 mutants, which were isolated from Rfer 1 and which had even better recipient ability than Rfer 1, were found to have rough mutations in addition to the restric-tion and modification deficiency. Anomalous characters of ƒi- R factors with regard to restriction and modification are also reported.

    1. A case of 33-year-old house wife with Senear-Usher syndrome was reported.
    2. Antiepithelial antibody in the sera of the patient was demonstrated by indirect IF staining technique. Bound IgG was present in the intercellular space of the prickle cell layer of the skin.
    3. IgG was significantly high in the cantharidin blister fluid induced from uninvolved skin of the patient while IgA and IgM remained slightly higher levels.
    4. Several immunological tests for lupus erythematosus gave negative results.
    5. These data indicate that the Senear-Usher syndrome should be classified as a form of pemphigus. However, more cases should be further accumulated and immunologically investigated as an aid to clarify the relationship between lupus erythematosus and this syndrome and to elucidate the pathogenesis of the syndrome.
