Electrophotography is a very useful tool for x-ray diagnosis of the soft tissue and the bone due to the edge effect having wide latitude and high contrast. However, in usual electroradiography, larger exposure doses are necessary compared to silver haloid method owing to the low sensitivtity to x-rays. Very sensitive electroradiography is developed as K.I.P. method, using special photoconductive material on the upper insulating layer, and fluorescent screen on the electrode combined with double charging technique. Satisfactory results, are obtained with the K.I.P. Method in the x-ray dia gnosis of verious organs, such as the breast, skin, thyroid gland, bone and joint, chest, gastro-intestinal tract and others.

It has been said that an early diagnosis of malignancy of renal paren chyma is not always possible, since the cardinal symptoms of parenchymal tumor; “gross hematuria, pain and palpable mass”, are delayed or lacked in manifestation. Moreover, early metastasis of the tumor occasionally takes place and complaints due to metastatic lesion may be important as initial signs of malignancy. Therefore, it is of considerable interest to present a patient who had recurrent gross hematuria due to a very small hyperne phroma of 0.7×0.7cm which was disclosed by renal angiography.

    1. On the cyanogen bromide cleavage of urease in 70% formic acid, addition of 2-mercaptoethanol led to the increase of the cleavage.
    2. Dithiothreitol and thiodiglycol were not effective for it.
    3. The cleavage ratio was estimated by gel filtration, N-terminal determina tion and the yield of cleaved peptides.
    4. A similar effect was observed on phosphorylase b as urease.

A new appetite suppressant AN 448 was given to 41 adult obese outpatients to investigate its effect on weight reduction with special references to the plasma lipids. Twelve of them dropped out within 4 weeks because of side effects or unknown reasons. The remaining 29 subjects lost their weights with an average reduction of 2.6 kg in a month and 5.9 kg in 3 months. Slight decrease in serum cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acids, phospholipid were also observed 1 month after administration.
Six healthy male nonobese volunteers were used to evaluate the shortterm effect of AN 448 on plasma lipids. Each subject received in randomized order a single oral dose of AN 448 1mg or placebo at five-day interval. Free fatty acids significantly rose 180 minutes after AN 448 administration. Cholesterol and triglyceride showed no significant alterations.
The fact that AN 448 enhances the lipolysis in adipose tissue with concomitant diminishing cell size and increases free fatty acids in the plasma suggests the possibility that it would lessen the effect of body weight reduction on serum triglyceride level.

Based upon the experimental results in KK and ddY/S-mice, it has become clear that a combination of Coenzyme A and Adenosine triphosphate exercises a favorable influence on treatment of the fatty liver. Forty one patients have been complaining of general fatigue more than one year. Their bodyweight exceeded slightly the standard in their own age. Physical examination revealed slight enlargement of the liver. Laboratory findings: hyperbetalipoproteinemia, hypercholesterinemia, hyperbetaglobulinemia, pathologic BSP-retention, slight elevation of cholin esterase and transaminaseactivity. Glucose toleranse test with 50g resulted in latent or manifest diabetic curve. Immunoreactive insuline (IRl) was also estimated. Liver biopsy: fatty liver. The treatment with a combination of 8mg CoA and 30mg 219 ATP daily in the form of intramuscular injection was introduced into the medical treatment when needle biopsy of the liver revealed steatosis hepatis histologically in these patients. After therapeutic duration of 6 months, laboratory findings as well as histological features of the biopsied liver specimens were improved. Therefore, it can be said that simultaneous i.m. injection of CoA and ATP brings a favorable effect not only on the laboratory findings but also on the histological changes of the fatty liver with diabetic change.

In order to assess angiocardiographic findings more precisely, a new method was developed for color display of conventional monochromatic angio cardiogram. The principles of the method are as follows: different light inten sities which compose the angiographic findings of a monochromatic film are converted into the corresponding 12 different colors through a video camera connected to a computer, and are projected on a cathode ray tube as a “color angiocardiogram”. Thus, the difference in the density of the monochromatic silhouette was expressed as the difference in color. Angiocardiograms of 25 patients with various heart diseases were analyzed with the above method. Normal laminar flow of contrast medium in the aorta as well as turbulent blood flow in the patients with aortic valvular diseases were revealed satisfac torily with this method. The grade of regurgitation (e.g. mitral regurgitation) and intracardiac shunt (e.g. ventricular septal defect) were evaluated semi quantitatively, according to the color description of the distribution density of contrast medium. The method was also applied to coronary angiogram. The distribution of contrast medium in the ventricular muscle was analyzed, and abnormal distribution of contrast medium or defects due to the preced ing myocardial infarction could be shown up. We conclude that“color angio cardiogram” is an useful diagnostic method for cardiovascular diseases.

Daily deaths of all causes in Tokyo residents from 1966 to 1972 were analyzed with relation to environmental conditions. As the analytical methods, daily deviation from 15-day moving average, simple correlation coefficients and stepwise regression procedure between daily deaths and environmental variables were employed. Seasonal variations of daily deaths, high in winter low in summer, and significant association between all causes of death in older age group and environmental variables, temperature and sulfur dioxide were found.
