Adult rats were inoculated with RH and Beverley strains of Toxoplasma. Toxoplasma could not be recovered from rats inoculated with RH strain when they were sacrificed 27, 55, 77 and 90 days after the inoculation. On the other hand, the parasites could be isolated from 2 rats inoculated with Beverley strain and sacrificed 27 and 78 days after inoculation, respectively. Two other rats inoculated with the same strain and sacrificed 56 and 92 days after inoculation, respectively, parasites were not recovered. It was conjec-tured that, whatever the strain may be, Toxoplasma could survive very long in rats when the cyst was produced. The case of cyst-production may depend upon the characteristics of individual strain concerned.

    1) Gold fish received injection of sera from several patients with orbital tumor and acromegaly and normal persons did not become exophthalmic.
    2) The relationship between thyroid function in patient and exophthalmos-producing reaction in fish. When exophthalmos-producing reaction is positive the patient may be hyperthyroid or hypothyroid but is usually euthyroid. Similarly, when endocrine exophthalmos follows thyroidectomy or 1-131 therapy, the patinent may show evidence of thyrotoxicosis or of myxedema but usually has normal thyroid function.
    3) The relationship between exophthalmos in patient and exophthalmos-producing reaction in fish.
    a) Exophthalmos-producing reaction was generally negative in the pa-tients with hyperthyroid without exophthalmos.
    b) Exophthalmos-producing substance may be temporarily increased in the early or progressive stage of exophthalmos with thyrotoxicosis, but exophthalmos-producing reaction was almost negative in the sta-tionary stage.
    c) In long-standing exophthalmos, fish received injections of sera did not only exophthalmic, but observed marked decrease of intercorneal distance. The author supposed that there are anti-EPS substance in such a patient serum.
    d) There are a rough correlation between the degree of the exophthalmos in the patient and the degree of reaction in the fish.
    4) The roentgen therapy to pituitary region were effective in cases with positive serum, while the cases with negative serum were unresponsive to the therapy. The author believed that exophthalmos-producing reaction was a very important factor in determination of the methods of treatment for exophthalmos.

A morphological and biochemical study of granulation tissue in wound healing was reported, using the circular excised wound of the dorsal skin of male adult mice.
Argyrophilic fibrils appeared first on the 6th day after the excision. After the 8th and subsequent days, prominent fibrogenesis was marked. Ribonucleic acid was most intensely demonstrated on the 8th and the 10th day. Alkaline phosphatase was observed only in the fibrotic area after the 8th day.
Neutral salt soluble collagen may not integrate in the newly deposited argyrophilic collagen fibrils in the 8th day granulation tissue. The neutral salt soluble collagen would exist in a dispersed or submicroscopic fibrillar state in the granulation tissue.
Acid soluble collagen might represent the bulk of newly deposited col-lagen fibrils.
PAS positivity of collagen fibers gradually decreased with maturation of fibers.
Biochemical study revealed that the neutral salt soluble collagen already appeared on the 6th day in considerable amounts. All collagen fractions gradually increased thereafter, and remarkable accumulation of insoluble collagen was recognized on the 10th and the 12th day. The ratio of neutral salt soluble and insoluble collagen to the total collagen changed inversely. Acid soluble collagen showed no remarkable change.
The content of desoxyribo- and ribonucleic acid increased up to the 8th day and then gradually decreased in the granulation tissue.
It has been shown that the incorporation of radioactive phosphorus into the nucleic acids made two peaks. The first was noted on the 4th day, when the leucocytic infiltration was prominent, and the second was on the 8th and the 10th day, when the active proliferation of fibroblasts and synthesis of collagen precursor were remarkable.
The possible significance of these results is discussed.
