(i) Assay of PBI by Zak-Leffer's chloric acid method was reduplicated, and its reliability was confirmed.
This method has advantage in that it is more simple and more rapidly performed than other methods, and can assay many samples at a time.
(ii) PBI value for normal women as assayed by the chloric acid method ranged 3.27.0γ/
dl, And it was found to be higher in luteal phase than in ovulatory phase.
(iii) During pregnancy, especially in early period, PBI value was rather high, but in puerperium, it returned to the normal level.
(iv) Pregnant women and patients with secondary amenorrhea complicated with various thyroid diseases were investigated for symptoms and hormones, and relation between gonad and thyroid was discussed.
(v) After hysterosalpingography, which is frequently used in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, assayed values of PBI were sometimes abnormally high. Investigation was performed on its change and effect on thyroidal function.
(vi) In patients with cervical cancer, PBI was assayed before and after operation without any consistent results. In cases who died from the relapse of the cancer immediately after the operation, PBI tended to decrease, while in cases without the relapse in one year after the operation, the value was higher than before the operation.
(vii) In this way various, investigations were performed by means of PBI assay. As to correlation between gonad and thyroid, results of a definite tendency could not always been obtained, and details still remained to be investigated.
