The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between resilience and psychological stress response of the speech therapist students during their clinical practices. The relationship was investigated before and after the clinical practices by the stress response scale and resilience scale. The samples consisted of 39 speech therapist students. The results were the following:1)There was a statistically significant difference in the stress response between before and after the clinical practices.2)In the case of the students with the high resilience scores, the low psychological stress responces were exhibited after the clinical practices. It was suggested that the supports will be needed for the low resilience students.

We measured the distribution of body pressure in two children with severe cerebral palsy while they operated computer switches. We measured the maximum and minimum pressures as well as the required number of sensors in the head/neck and shoulder/back areas. In both children, the maximuminimum pressures and required number of sensors on the head/neck area were significantly lower or fewer during switch operation, compared to during rest.On the other hand, there were no marked differences in measurements of the shoulder/back area. This indicates that the children operated computer switches in a relaxed manner without overstraining the muscles. The measurement of the distribution of body pressure does not require complex procedures or techniques, and is effective in determining appropriate switch-fitting.

In this study,we compared the naming level of symbols by recipients and the level of their confidence concerning the naming. We also compared the level of agreement between the naming and symbol images and the level of confidence in the agreement. The subjects were 44 adults, and the evalcation items were symbols corresponding to adjectives, verbs, and nouns. Very strong correlations with correlation coefficients of 0.96,0.96,and 0.98(p<0.001)were observed between the naming level of symbols and the confidence level concerning the naming for nouns, verbs, and adjectives, respectively. When the agreement level between the naming and symbol image and the level of confidence in the agreement were compared, the confidence level was lower than the agreement level in all words with significant differences in 6 nouns,5verbs,and 4 adjectives.

Presently, symbols marketed in Japan are picture communication symbols(PCS)drawn in black lines on white backgrounds and pictogram ideogram communication(PIC)drawn in white lines on black backgrounds. They resemble each other in that both are abstract symbols, but differ in that the colors(black and white)of the drawing and background are reversed. In this study,we evaluated the effects of the reversal of colors of the same drawings and their backgrounds on recipients' images generated by the symbols.Images elicited by symbols corresponding to adjectives, adverbs, verbs, and nouns were measured in 44 adult subjects, and the selection of more appropriate symbols for communication was attempted. As a result, symbols consisting of a white line drawing on a black background were found to more appropriately represent the intended images than those consisting of a black line drawing on a white background in 22 of 30 adjectives, adverbs, verbs, and nouns. On image assessment of all symbols,a significant difference was observed in all 7 words, suggesting that a black line drawing on a white background is more likely to generate a positive image than a white line drawing on a black background.

In this study,to compare images that recipients of symbols obtain from line-drawing and 3D-drawing symbols,we measured images elicited by symbols corresponding to verbs and attempted to select more appropriate symbols for communication in 44 adult subjects. As a result,18 of the 30 target words were judged to be more appropriately represented by 3D-drawing than line-drawing symbols. On image assessment of all symbols,a significant difference was noted in 6 of the 7 words, indicating that line-drawing symbols are more likely to give positive images than 3D-drawing symbols.
