Seasonality of shoot elongation, development of antheridia, and flagelliform branchlet production were investigated for male plants of the dioicous moss Trachycystis flagellaris (Sull. et Lesq.) Lindb., on a population in Hiroshima Prefecture, western Japan. Elongation of new shoots begins in November, but followed by dormancy snow from December to March. Rapid shoot elongation was recorded from April to May. Antheridia production begins in April, and sperms are released in early June. Flagelliform branchlets are produced mainly from May to June but only on plants with antheridia. For male plants of T. flagellaris, shoot elongation and sexual reproduction and vegetative reproduction are nearly synchronous during April to June.
