Yatsushiro National College of Technology advocated contribution to the community by the technology as one of the mission and founded the Center for Industrial and Educational Support (CIES) since 2000. The CIES has been active supported for the scientific experiments in junior high. Science Partnership Project (SPP) by Japan Science and Technology Agency is aimed at stimulating the scientific interest of the junior high students and SPP supported 9 classes CIES projects in 2008. Those classes with an emphasis on experiments were favorably accepted by the junior high students. However, there are many problems to be overcome. These support activities will be improved and taken over the Problem Based Learning & Integrated Education Center at Kumamoto National College of Technology.
In this paper, some activities to develop human resource for nuclear energy industry in Yatsushiro National College of Technology are described. The activities include: visits to nuclear power plant, experiments using measuring instruments for radiation, lectures on atomic energy, and so on. Students have acquired profound knowledge on radiation and nuclear power. In the future, a cloud chamber is planned to use for introductory education to attract more interest of students toward this field.
This paper describes development of a support tool of management of a badminton game in the Kyushu-Okinawa
region Kousen Athletic Games. This tool consists of the sheets of MS-Excel and a wireless LAN system. The sheets realized useful progress of the tournament semi-automatically, and the wireless LAN system was able to give some information of situation of the games’ progression to some audiences at the floor and at the stands in the gymnasium.
Micromouse competition is one of the most famous autonomous robot competitions. Although the producing micromouse has technical difficulty, it is very useful for students to study embedded systems if the educational materials are enough prepared. Simply design and development of micromouse for embedded system education are presented. The micromouse consists of H8 tiny, optical sensor, stepping motor, FET motor driver and peripheral circuits. The number of the source code of the sample software is less than 1000 lines.
The global warming is one of the biggest issues that mankind is facing. Japan is no exception to the global warming. In this report, using AMeDAS data for recent 28 years published on the internet by Japan Meteorological Agency, we estimate the rising rates of average temperatures in Japan area. The average rising rate of temperature per 100 years in all areas of Japan is 4.5 C. Although the distinction between the global warming and urban heat island effect is difficult, the centennial rising rate of temperature in Japan area is currently estimated to be greater than 4.0C due to global warming.
Long-term changes in characteristics of bomb-cyclones around Japan from the former years (1979-1992) to the latter years (1993-2007) were investigated in winter (November – February), using analysis data of Japanese 25-year Reanalysis / JMA Climate Data Assimilation System (JRA/JCDAS). It was found that the frequency of the “bomb”, in which the deepening rate of central sea level pressure was the maximum in the lifetime of each cyclone and the deepening rate was over a criterion, was increased to the east of Japan in the northwestern Pacific and decreased over the north Pacific. Similar changes were identified in the frequency of heavy precipitation. Moreover, energy budget analyses were conducted for two composited anomaly fields constructed for bomb-cyclones in the former years and the latter years. The comparison between them indicated that the change in the development rate of bomb-cyclones was attributed to the change in the energy supply from the condensational heating.
Recently, some developments for a high performance wheelchair have been proposed. For example, the hand-free control system of wheelchair is one of the useful function in the case that operator wants to do the handwork. In this study, we propose an intelligent wheelchair maneuvered by operator’s posture change. When we drive a car or motorcycle, we intend to incline our body to the traveling direction. So, the amount of posture change involves the operator’s intention to move with expecting direction and velocity. We ar- ranged the pressure-sensitive mat on the back of wheelchair in order to measure of the amount of posture change, and also developed a control signal generating system by the use of pressure distribution data. In this report, we describe a concrete composition of the control system and results of evaluation experiment.
It is the purpose of this paper to clear the architectural characteristics of the KOGANE. The followings were clarified .It seems that KOGANE was built for Japanese-style architecture in the red-light district in the early Meiji-era. It was a peak of skill of Japanese wooden architecture. So the transoms of moon & bats , gooses fretwork were very fine skill and specific architectural characteristics. And the law balustrade surrounded Japanese veranda was too. The only KOGANE has existed in formerly those days architecture.
This study aims to clear up the questionable points of reduction of natural disaster in depopulated area. In order to survey the consciousness for natural disaster of residents, a questionnaire survey was conducted in 10 area of Yatsushiro City. All of this area is surrounded by steep slope and connected to the city area by poor network. In conclusion, the difﬁculty of maintaining the community based disaster mitigation effort mainly due to the aging and depopulation problem.
Recently, in the intermediate and mountainous area, the continuance of a public transport system becomes difficult because of the depopulation, declining birthrate and aging. This paper introduces a result of social experiment, a new transportation system of a depopulated area, in Sakamoto-machi of Yatsushiro-city. As a result, we consider for the continuance of a public transport system of the depopulated area that the resident's cooperation is necessary.
Metabolic syndrome is one of the most all-too-common terms and the number of patients aﬄicted with lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipemia is rapidly growing. Dietary cure is one of eﬀective methods to prevent from lifestyle diseases. This paper describes a concept and implementation of a recipe suggestion system which enhances the Quality of Life. This system incorporates a recipe suggestion, inventory management and dietary planning to aid homeowners to cook and plan for healthier meals.
George Orwell’s Nineteen-Eighty Four (1949) is still considered one of the masterpieces of the twentieth century, even after the passing of 1984, the fictional year in which the story is set. The work originally gained acceptance as a near-future novel with some dreadful prophecies about the human race, but now it has become a ‘near-past’ novel. However, it has never lost its main feature: a universal warning to the human race. It is Orwell’s warning to us not only in respect to politics, but to the whole of society. In this essay sight and observation are focused upon, among other aspects of the work, because these factors related to eyes are frequently found throughout the story. Furthermore, visual literary devices highlight different features, depending on the character involved, the central characters being Winston Smith and Big Brother: the object to be watched and the watcher. Drawing on thoughts from Michel Foulcault, Jeremy Bentham and Jonathan Crary, this study on sight-related issues and observation in Orwell’s work leads inevitably to questions surrounding the concept of humanness and the future of our modern societies enveloped by surveillance brought to bear through present visual technologies.
Results are reported on the formation of lattice defects and the degradation of the electrical performance of Si1-xGex epitaxial diodes and heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) after irradiation at room temperature with 2-MeV electrons, 1-MeV fast neutrons and 20-MeV protons. The influence of particle fluence and germanium content is studied, while the radiation source dependence is also investigated by comparing irradiation for different particles with respect to the damage coefficient and the number of knock-on atoms. Based on the observed recovery behavior resulting from isochronal thermal annealing, some possible explanations for the observed degradation and its dependence on germanium content are presented. In addition, the degradation of the electrical performance of Si1-xGex S/D diodes, which have been irradiated at room temperature with 2-MeV electrons, is reported with the performance of p-Ge-MOSFETs at liquid nitrogen temperature. Finally, an outlook will be given as future work.
A transparent electrode of B-Ga2O3 films for solar cells, flat panel displays and other devices, which consist in chemically abundant and ecological elements of gallium and oxygen, were grow on quarts or silicon substrate by RF magnetron sputtering using sintered Ga2O3 target. The polycrystalline B-Ga2O3 grew by the thermal annealing after RF sputtering. It is important that oxygen introduction at the sputtering to obtain flat B-Ga2O3 film. The optical absorption coefficient over energy gap increased with decreasing Ar/O2 ratio. The impurity of Si was also doped into the grown films. From the measurement of optical absorption coefficient, it is concluded that the B-Ga2O3 energy gap increases with increasing Si concentration in the deposited film.
To train knowledge and the technology of the signal processing by using the acoustic signal, acoustic experimental equipments have been constructed. In this report, we introduces the audio experimental equipment and its effective utilization in education and research activities.
Ryokan-Kinparo is a Japanese inn built in 1909 in Hinagu. In 2009, it was registered for ‘Registered Tangible Cultural Properties(buildings)’ by the National Government. I made the application form for presentation. A purpose of this paper is to annotate of my opinion written in the application form. Further this paper publishes the present plans and the elevation of the gate and the wall. These were made by me.
