In classes using literature as teaching materials, it is required not only to know the background and to appreciate, but also foster various abilities. We also use literature to practice ingenuity of lessons to develop diverse qualities. In this paper, we report how we tried utilizing Ryunosuke Akutagawa Rashomon and Mimei Ogawa Set a fire.
A purpose of this paper is to clarify the architectural characteristics of Kitakata-gu shrine and Yakushi-do in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto.
They come from Jogan-ji Temple that the Sagara family founded in 1513. Originally Kitakata-gu shrine is Katanogawa Myouken-sha shrine attached to the temple. Yakushi-do was founded again instead of the temple by the villager in 1694. The current building of the Yakushi-do was built in 1820. Two buildings continue standing on the same site to the present time after the time of Separation of Shinto and Buddhism.
A purpose of this paper is to clarify the architectural characteristics and the present condition of Tsurunoyu-Ryokan. It is a modern Japanese-style hotel of wooden three-story. It was built along the Kuma River in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture in 1954. One of the historic value is related to the construction (1955) of the Arase Dam in the river and the removal (2018) which was the first project of its kind undertaken in Japan. Its architectural characteristics are the design in consideration for the place, the facade as a gate to the unusual experience and the traditional module. For an uneven settlement of the site, the building inclines towards Kuma River.
Semisulconspira libertina is a black snail and lives in clean rivers throughout Japan. This snail in known as a food for larvae of the firefly, release of snail to protect fireflies has been done. Genetic pollutions caused by release of foreign snail are concerned. To obtain informations useful for maintenance of genetic diversity, we investigated the genetic population and geographic relationships of Semisulconspira libertina sampled from 50 points including Kumagawa river system, Hikawa river system, and Midorikawa river system in southern Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
A novel method for readily extract mitochondrial DNA from foot tissue has been developed. For this assay, mitochondrial COI gene was not suitable, because it shows heteroplasmy in some individuals. On the other hand, mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene are homoplasmic. Total 189 of mitochondrial 16S rRNA sequences were compared by clustalw multiple alignments and resolved into lineages by generating phylogenetic trees. However, most of clones were distributed over several regions, a few clones show region specific localization. Such region specific clones are useful phylogeografic investigations and maintenance of genetic diversity.
In this paper, the development of a device for quantitative vibratory sensation tests in medical treatment or rehabilitation fields is proposed. Recently, it has been speculated that the number of patients who have sensation disorders will increase with the aging of Japanese population. A sensation test is one good way to diagnose or to confirm the progression of the disease. Our final goals are to establish technologies to generate stimuli for sensation tests, using not only vibratory, but also temperature, tactual and pressure sensation so as to develop a small, light device for quantitative sensation testing which combines these multiple technologies.
This paper describes a trial report for establishment of a style for a class in English language in advanced course. The style is a method that I put powerpoint English slides and Japanese slides in row alternately and repeatedly. Moreover, this paper describes questionnaire results for the trial. It is clarified that 1) a number of students in the class feels significance of the classes in English language, 2) a number of students in the class is seeking opportunities of using English language.
It is important to manage the classes to grasp the relationships of students within the class and to assign appropriate roles. However, long-term observation is necessary to grasp them. In this research, we apply analytical methods of complex networks to social networks inside classes based on data such as human relationships inside the class. More specifically, we seek the centrality of students on the social network and quantitatively grasp the position of social standing within the class of the student. Furthermore, the correlation between the centrality and characteristics such as division activity and subject preference is obtained. Through these methods, we aim to establish a method of acquiring knowledge that can clarify the characteristics of students who are key points in the class and improve the efficiency of class administration. In the experiment, we reconstructed the social network of the class based on the human relations of the class, preference of the subject, questionnaire such as club activity, and requested centralities. Next, correlation coefficients between those centralities and preferences of subjects and activity status of club activities were obtained. As a result, there was a tendency that the participation in the cultural club activity and the centrality of the students whose Japanese subjects, Social studies are good subjects were higher. In the future, it is shown that by increasing the number of samples and increasing the reliability, it is possible to estimate the characteristics that can become the center in the class.
At the mouth of Kumagawa River in Yatsushiro, green laver has been commercially cultivated as flavouring food. Although Shimantogawa's green laver was most famous in Japan and identified as Ulva prolifera, Kumagawa's green laver was not elucidated whether U. prolifera or other species. In this work, we attempt to identify green laver species grown in Kumagawa river using genetic marker (chloroplastic rbcL gene). A novel method for readily extract chloroplastic DNA from small species of leaf sample has been developed. From both live and dry samples, extraction of chloroplastic DNA were possible. The rbcL gene fragments were amplified by PCR using universal primer set, and directly sequenced. 1,119bp length of rbcL sequence was searched with BLAST, it was fully identical to rbcL sequences of U. linza, U. procera, and U. prolifera (LPP clade). However, Kumagawa's sample was considered as U. prolifera by its morphologically aspects, further analysises using other genetic markers (e.g. nuclear-encoded ITS and associated 5.8S rDNA regions) were needed.
Up to now we have engaged in research on the development of a system to support the understanding of multi-dimensional data processing using 3-d puzzles. In this paper, we picked up a color dice puzzle as the 3-d puzzle and developed an application for use as teaching materials. Furthermore, we tried this application on open-campus event day.
Japanese tea ceremony was established by Sen Rikyu, whose manners have been inherited from the 16th century over hundreds of years. We report about an interview of a master of one representive school of Japanese tea ceremony, Urasenke. In particular, the interview questioned focused on the situation of tea ceremony in Japan during and after the World War II.
This report is aimed to investigate basic skills in mathematics necessary for learning radio engineering. The author extracts learning items in mathematics from the problem in radio engineering fundamentals which is one of the subjects of the national examination for Technical Radio Operator for On-the-Ground Services. From total results of the survey we find the frequently extracted learning items, which are regarded as the components of basic skills in mathematics for radio engineering. The survey results will be available in the improvement of class or teaching materials in radio engineering.
Keita Ikebe (1797-1868) was a hojutsuka (ballistic specialist) of the Higo Domain in the end of the Edo period. He served as the grand master of hojyutu at Jishukan, a domain school. This report explained theoretical formula based on Newtonian science and his two books on ballistic theory.
