In January 2011, The Sectional Meeting of Career Education and Vocational Education of Central Council for Education examined what the appropriate career education and vocational education at schools should be in the future and concluded career education to be compulsory at institutions for higher education. However, it does not mean that the career education needs some more activities. The accumulation of educational activities in technical subjects must have provided students with many practical ways to acquire basic and generic skills. In this thesis, a case study in which career education was practiced through Japanese classes is reported.

Japanese traditional bow, so called Wakyu, has been made from a bamboo. On the other hand, a bow which is made from new material as a glass fiber or a carbon fiber has been developed from 1970’s. These new material bow are easy to handle and are durable. However the vibration of a new material bow is different from that of a traditional bamboo bow at shooting an arrow. Therefore it is expected to develop a new material bow which has similar to bamboo bow in vibration characteristics. The purposes of this study are to measure the vibration characteristics of bows by using accelerometer and to make clear the effect of material and structure to the vibration characteristics. For these purposes, an experimental setup to investigate some of vibration characteristics of bow was constructed. In this paper, it is explained that the developed experimental setup and the basically vibration characteristics of a new material bow at shooting an arrow.

Recently, the measurement technology using image processing is used for the inspection of defective products or the precise positioning system in machining processes. Also, the use of the NC machine tools and 3D-CAD systems has increased in the field of machine design and production. This study attempts to develop the automatic manufacturing system of the relief board using the image processing system. The system makes the cloud of three dimensional point data based on the brightness value of a photo image. The point data are converted to the surface data and solid data using 3D CAD system, and lastly the processing data for NC machine system using CAM software. The relief manufacturing is realized in the above procedure. We used Visual Basic 6.0 to produce a computer programming for the system of image processing and data conversion. In addition, we used Solidworks 2009 for 3D-CAD system, Dimension BST 768 for 3D-printer, and NV 5000 a/40 for machining center.

This paper describes the fracture strength of resistance spot welded joint for AZ31(Mg-3%Al-1%Zn) magnesium alloy sheets. Cross tensile strengths of the joints for various kinds of welding conditions were investigated at a crosshead speed(v) of 1 mm/min using an Instron-type testing machine and the surface profiles near spot welded joints were also observed by 3D laser scanner. It was found that the fracture strength were related to welding current, air pressure for pressing welding electrodes and resistance welding time, and it was also relative to the crater depth generated at spot welded joint .

The KOSEN, whose mission is to foster creative and practical technical engineers, has gained a fine reputation from industry. In order to continue accomplishing this aim, the KOSEN conduct practical and professional engineering education based on a five-year integrated system with general subjects and specialized subjects. This system is called “wedge-shape configuration of subjects”. In our department, the fourth and fifth grade students learn advanced technology concerning control theory, instrumentation engineering, programming language, software computing, and advanced technique concerning embedded technology through these lectures. The feature of the curriculum in our department is “line tracer robot oriented”. In this curriculum, basic line tracer robots are developed to high technology ones as grade in college advanced. Basic tracers are developed with simple logic devices. High technology tracers are controlled by microcomputers, such as H8. This paper describes details of the line tracer robot experiments and contests using microcomputer. Proposed idea in this paper can be applied to other education sector from an educational perspective.

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the relationships between the rising rate of the average temperatures and the human activities at 47 prefectures in Japan, in recent 30 years (1980-2009). The annual average temperatures at each prefecture are rising at a rate of 3-5℃/100years. It is found that the rising rates of the daily mean and the daily minimum temperatures averaged over prefecture have significant relationships with the human activities, such as the emission of carbon dioxides. Further, this report attempts to clarify the characteristics of urban climate in Japan from the difference between the diurnal changes in temperature at Urban and Rural areas. The difference of temperature between Urban and Rural areas has a maximum in evening in a day and in autumn in a year. It seems that those implicate a tendency of future climatic change.

This paper discusses the actual use condition of the exclusive bikeway and pedestrian path “Yatsushiro Green Corridor Bikeway” comparing 2002 with 2010. By the survey of bicycle traffic volume and pedestrian volume of 12-hours on the 3 observation point, hearing survey and fixed point observation by video camera, we compare those data with that of 2002. As result, the total bicycle traffic volume is about 1200 and the pedestrian volume is about 600 during 7:00am to 7:00pm. But it has a tendency that the bicycle traffic volume decrees and the pedestrian volume increases greatly comparing with 2002. Especially, a number of old aged person is tending to increase. This is considered that the using of walking of old aged person increase for their health in addition to commuting and attending to the school by bicycle using Yatsushiro Green Corridor Bikeway. In the survey of the fixed point observation by video camera, the scene that parent and child were riding a bicycle parallel with a safe feeling was observed as characteristic of “Yatsushiro Green Corridor Bikeway”.

Many who work in the fields of architecture and civil engineering often have collaborating with different specialties and field. In collaboration, compassion, self-control, cooperation, harmony-minded values and skills are very important. These values and skills have some connection to problem identification, problem solving and heuristic learning attitude. The status of individuals and classes on the EQ find clues for promoting endeavors made in heuristic learning. Therefore, the authors conducted an EQ test. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were performed using data from the EQ. In addition, we classified the type of personal analysis. Learning atmosphere of the school year by the difference in the number of types is understood. Learning environment has been configured by the number of types of individuals. To facilitate proactive learning, if types of individuals are understood teachers will help to control their learning atmosphere. In addition, to maintain the motivation to learn, it is better to small changes in EQ. It is understood that high EQ types make small changes in emotion, and low EQ types make a big change in emotion.

This paper proposes a new method Distance equality method between opinions in group decision making. We paid our attention to the distance between opinions of evaluators in the group. When the distance between opinions is too bigger than others or too small, it is biased that contribution degree for a group. Therefore the proposal method grades the evaluators to become equal at distance between opinions, and it makes equal the influence on group. Then the method defined VDI that is index for the equality degree on influence on group. If VDI is so small, it means influence on group is equal. As a results of simulation, VDI was corrected to about 0.001 or less. In addition, this method is applicable to the absolute measurement method. And it become a tool that analyze the situation of an individual and the group, because the VDI and grades show the stable value.

This paper describes an experimental result of a pulsed neuron model without multiplier for digital circuit. Iwata et al. proposed a pulsed neuron model for digital circuit, and succeeded in decreasing circuit scale without using multiplier in execution process. However, a multiplier is used in learning process and some circuit scale was required. Hosoi et al. proposed a learning rule of the pulsed neuron model without multiplier in learning process. And we report performances of the proposed method for real value input and output by computer simulation.

Many students, for example foreign students and alumni from high-school, transfer into the national colleges of technology (KOSENs) in Japan. Furthermore, some students transfer into the department which is strictly different area for them. In such cases, their shortage of technical knowledge and skills, of that most of students of KOSEN have already learned before their admission, often becomes obstacle to master the advanced and sophisticated technical knowledge and skills. So, the self-learning supporting program has been in highly demand at KOSEN. In this project, we have tried to develop the supplementary self-learning program based on PSI (Personalized System of Instruction) method which involves not only the learning about the technical knowledge but also experiments in order to get technical skills and to fix their knowledge. Specially, in this report, the recent result of development of such a self-learning program for the basics of digital circuit is shown.

New Kumamoto National College of Technology, which has 6 departments and 2 advanced courses, was newly opened at 1st October, 2009. The New College originates from Old Kumamoto National College of Technology and Yatsushiro National College of Technology. Apple trees in connection with Isaac Newton were planted on the both campus by a proposal of the First President Miyagawa. He wishes on the trees to be the college taking over the traditions that the above two colleges had cultivated in the two schools’ histories, growing as an attractive college and being the graduated students to become a leader of the times. This paper deals with the production process of the tablet which is descriptive of the origin.
