In Tachibanaguchi Ward, Shingu Town, located at the foot of Tachibanayama, Kasuya-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture, traditional buildings built after the end of the Edo Era are concentrated, and with a combination of nagaya-mon gates and the main houses, the ward forms a characteristic landscape. The purpose of the study was then to examine the process of establishment of nagaya-mon gates and the main houses through understanding their shape, structure scale, and construction age by investigating their appearance, floor plans, and house ledgers as well as focusing on their relationship to the inhabitants’ livelihood by interviewing local people about the condition of living and how each room was used.
