On 5th August, 1954, Mr. AKIO URATA collected a tropical Lycaenid, Pithecopis hylax (FABRI-Cius) at Sasuna-mura, Tsushima Islands, Japan. This is the first record of the species in Japan, and the discovery was entirely unexpected, as this locality is situated much further north from Okinawahonto of the Loochoos, the northernmost known locality of the species. He found more than ten specimens of this species in Cryptomeria-forest in a hill, and collected seven specimens, of which a male is shown here. Undoubtedly the species is native in the Tsushima Islands, and cannot be regard as a migrant species. The form from the Tsushima Islands may represent a new subspecies, but only a single specimen is available for me at present, and the establishment of a new subspecies must be postponed until more materials will be obtained.
