Up to the present, 13 species of the genus Promalactis Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Oecophoridae) have been recorded in Japan. Based on specimens collected from Kyushu and Honshu, Japan, a new species, Promalactis squamijuxta sp. nov. is described. This paper provides images of the male and female adults and genitalia of the new species.
Lepidopteran fauna in the nests of five bird species breeding in urban and rural areas in Japan was investigated. Nine moth species of five families were found, and three of which were newly recorded from bird nests. Three moth species among them are household insect pests of clothes and foods. Relationships between household insect pests and bird nests are discussed. This report is the first record of Lepidoptera from the nests of Oriental Turtle Dove and Brown-eared Bulbul.
The immature stages of Polygonia gigantea (Leech, 1890) are reported for the first time, with Girardinia diversifolia suborbiculata (C. J. Chen) C. J. Chen & Friis as the host plant of this species. The larval and pupal morphology is compared with that of its relatives, P. c-album and P. c-aureum.
