Single mode oscillation of the TE CO
2 laser which contained strong absorber (NH
3) was attained at theline center with the injection technique, although the presence of the absorber strongly reduced the CO
2 lasergain at the line center. As the pressure of the NH
3 gas was increased, the delay time of the single mode oscillation was also increased. In the single mode TE CO
2 laser pulse, a dip was observed. The dip is due to anincrease of the absorption by NH
3 and is interpreted in term of the two-photon process.
