    A very broad and flat shape of the log kcs vs. - Δ Gcs relation for the intermolecular electron transfer (ET) in the fluorescence quenching reaction in contrast to the bell-shaped log kCR vs. - Δ GCR relation of produced 1LIP's (loose ion pairs) are discussed, leading to the mechanisms of the D, A distance distribution and formation of multiple IP states with different structures depending on the D, A interaction strength, solvation and - Δ G for ET. The solvent dependent structures and multiple states mechanisms derived here agree with the conclusions derived from the studies on exciplex phenomena as discussed in Part 2 and their roles of crucial importance in organic photochemical reactions are demonstrated.

    The Mechanisms and dynamics of charge separation due to photoexcitation of charge transfer (CT) complexes and charge recombination as well as ionic dissociation of the produced 1CIP's (compact ion pairs) are discussed on the basis of results obtained by means of femtosecond-picosecond laser spectroscopy. Contrary to 1LIP's, 1CIP's show log kCR vs. -Δ GIP (=-Δ GCR) linear relation. No or little solvent polarity effect on this linear energy gap relation has been observed, which suggests a dominant effect of the high frequency quantum modes in the CR process. These results on the log kCR vs. -Δ GIP, relation of 1CIP's have been interpreted on the weak coupling limit in the radiationless transition including the important contribution of multimode effects and the equilibrium displacements enhanced by CT.

    The optical properties of Ti3+ ions in the glasses of the system SiO2-Li2O-Na2O-MgO-Y2O3 (or Al2O3) were investigated. A very broad infrared emission band (peak at 810 nm) has been first found in Ti3+ doped silicate glass, when the excitation is performed in the Ti3+ absorption band (T2g-Eg transition in approximate cubic field). The spectroscopic and fluorescence properties of Ti3+ doped silicate glass were compared with those of Ti3+ doped sapphire and alexandrite. The fluorescence lifetime were not big different between glass and crystals. The quantum efficiency of the glass was 30% of sapphire. The emission intensity of the glass was 6% of sapphire and alexandrite at the peak wavelength. The lower emission intensity of glass is attributed to the reabsorption by Ti3+ absorption tail and Ti3+-Ti4+ complexions.

    A method for a realtime detection of a dye has been proposed which enables us to measure a concentration and it's fluctuation of the three base colors. The method is based on a light attenuation theory and its principle requires three different lasers having the three base colors. A series of preliminary experiments have been conducted using a semi-conductor laser with a wavelength of 670 nm in order to confirm the feasibility of the method. The results show that the sensitivity of the system is found to be 0.1% in weight and that the present method is capable of the measurements if three base color lasers are used as discussed in the paper.

    A simple automatic alignment control of the optical axis of the laser cavity, astable He pressure sensor, and the reduction of laser noise are described for newly developd 325nm He-Cd+ lasers. Furthermore, the isotope shift of 325nm Cd+ transition is estimated from the axial mode profile observed with a Fabry-Prot interferometer and from curve fitting calculations. The estimated value for the spacing of alacent even isotopes is about 1.5GHz.

    A simple iterative-calculation-based method for reconstructing time histories of intensity and phase for a commercially available Ti3+: Al2O3 mode-locked femtosecond laser pulse is demonstrated. Time histories of intensity and phase, which are reconstructed under an assumption of symmetric property for the intensity profile, are cross-checked with the measurements of fringe-resolved autocorrelation and spectrum-resolved autocorrelation. Once the intensity and phase are determined with a high accuracy for an oscillator output pulse, phase distortion caused on the pulse in post processes can be reconstructed by the same iterative calculation using a crosscorrelation signal with the standard oscillator pulse.This phase measurement scheme is experimentally demonstrated for a pulse transmitted through a single-mode fiber.
