    The present state of 3-D display technologies is viewed from the point of 3-D video. First, different two categories are tried, and the merit and the demerit of each practical display method are mentioned. Next, new methods which have been recently developed are introduced with the key points. In future, observation of 3-D image should be natural and observers should not be tired. From this point of view, it becomes important the comparison of eye control between the case of real object observation and 3-D display observation. The researches of these progress are mentioned.

    Recent advancements of three-dimensional still image display by holography are introduced. The features of holography for displaying the image and the technical subjects to be solved are described first. The topics include the deep-image holography, hologram printer, color holography, compact reconstruction of hologram, and the image formation using computer. The display of image information using holographic optical element is also presented.

    A personalized holographic stereogram printing system has been developed. The system consists of an image processing PC, a system control device and a desktop one-step holographic stereogram printer. It takes less than 90 seconds including file-loading time to obtain a horizontal-parallax-only hologram image 30 mm × 22.4 mm on photopolymer film. The system is capable of producing not only reflection type holograms but also edge-lit type holograms by making a small change to the printer head. As applications of the edge-lit hologram, we propose a 360 degrees viewable cylindrical hologram and a compact edge-lit hologram viewer. The system can be applied to many applications such as portraiture, computer graphics, identification, computer aided design, visualization, medical imaging and so on. We will also describe about the consumer applications that will enable us to easily put personalized contents into the hologram via the Internet.

    The development of a large stereoscopic full-color LED display using a parallax barrier is described. An optimization of a viewing area that depends on the width of black regions between LEDs has been discussed and then its widening has been examined by using LED panels with different width of black regions. A method to enlarge the viewing areas of the display for observers with different interpupillary distances is proposed. Furthermore, elimination of the pseudoscopic viewing area by introducing black columns into the display has been discussed and confirmed by experiments.
