The electron impact-induced fragmentation of 1-benzoylbenzotriazole (
1) has been discussed on the basis of MIKE spectra of the related compounds. The metastable abundance ratios, metastable peak shapes, and KE releases for the transition of
m/z 195→167 in the second field free region demonstrate that the ion at
m/z 195 produced by loss of N
2 from the molecular ion of
1 is identical with the molecular ion of 2-phenyl-benzoxazole. The possible contribution of an electronically excited molecular ion to the fragmentation process reported previously by the
13C-labelled experiments is again suggested. The hydrogen and methane CI spectra of
1 are also given in which characteristic fragmentation leading to benzoyl and protonated 1
H-benzotriazole ions is demonstrated.
