Isotope ratios of 24Mg/25Mg and 26Mg/25Mg have been measured by an ion microprobe mass analyzer in three specimens of forsterite-rich olivine from the Allende carbonaceous chondrite (Fo95, Fo85 and Fo98). Prior to isotopic analyses, the mineral compositions of these specimens were identified by an electron probe microanalyzer. The ratios were compared with those for a terrestrial laboratory standard olivine (Fo94). About 5 permil excesses of 24Mg were found in two of those forsterite-rich olivine specimens from Allende analyzed. These excesses of 24Mg can be one of the evidences of the heterogeneity of the primordial solar nebula.

In order to investigate the mechanism of oxygen enhancement in ion and photon emission during ion bombaundment, Ar+ ion induced Ga+ ion and Ga (I) photon emissions from GaAs and Ga metal surfaces were simultaneously detected by the SIMS-SCANIIR technique for different amount of oxygen adsorbates. The oxygen coverage of the topmost surface under sputtering was monitored by ISS making use of a double focusing mass spectrometer of a SIMS instrument. Results indicate that the Ga+ion intensity depends on the Ga-O bonding configuration, whereas the Ga (I) photon intensity does simply on the oxygen coverage.

The changes in secondary ion mass spectra caused by adding acid into the sample solutions of peptides were investigated. The dependence of spectra on the concentration and amount of acid were systematically measured. The intensity changes of MH+, fragment ions, and total ion current were studied by analyzing the spectra. It was observed that MH+ intensity was significantly increased and the fragmentation was suppressed by the addition of acid. The results obtained suggest that proper amount of acid minimizes the internal energy of MH+, which causes the increase of the stability of MH+ and the reduction of the fragmentation as a result.

Pretreatment of samples and types of matrices were studied to find the best conditions for secondary ion mass spectral measurements of anionic dyes and their intermediate compounds. In order to obtain the secondary ion mass spectra of good quality, it was indiespensable that the samples were purifided as much as possible and the sulfonic acid groups were changed into free acid.
The reversed phase HPLC, in which mobile phase contained ammonium carbonate, was applied to the purification of the anionic dyes. The efflueut was then passed through a column of H type cation-exchange resin, where sulfonic acid groups were changed into free acid, and at the same time excess amount of ammonium carbonate was removed. Anionic dyes thus purified clearly gave the protonated molecular ions and fragment ions reflecting their molecular structures on their SIMS spectra. Glycerol was the best matrix and the higher concentrated glycerol solution close to soturation gave the better mass spectra.
